I would not risk it as I said. That's why I have the real retail version. But nothing holding you back not to try it, just be aware it may not work the same way or not at all - each chip has exact identifier and each Mac Pro supports only specific CPUs. Also those samples are clocked lower in most cases etc.

In my case, I purchased an AMD Radeon RX 6800 X, you need to be sure about the long size, there are models that don't much in your MacPro. But my GPU works perfect out of the box. I use Davinci Resolve and it recognised my 2 GPU, the original one that comes in my Mac Pro AMD 580X radeon pro, and the new rx 6800 xt. Right now the price drop a lot. You can purchase the 6900 too !!

@Shane McKenzie - you must know your "cpu rendering" is very vague term saying nothing. There is tons of render engines, tons of 3D apps etc. and performance vary one of the other. That's why I added some benchmark results which utilize also some rendering in their tests. But no matter what I do, it's never enough for people

i was just reading an old forum thread about doing this on even older mac pros (someone mentioned having mostly powerpc macs 💀). someday it would be fun to do on my 2019 macbook pro but i’m gonna try to get cooling figured out first, and i’d probably try to upgrade the memory before trying to swap out cpu or gpu. since it’s all soldered i’m not sure if it’s hardcoded to one thing or if it can still recognize what’s plugged in, so maybe i’d need to alter configs.

What about mixing different size memory module? For example I have 4 module of 32 gb each and 4 module of 8 gb each. All the same latency. When I mix different size module the overall performance in GeekBench decrease a little from 14.700 to 13.200. But if I use modules of same size, like 4 module of 32 gb each one, the overall performance increase at 14.700. Do you know about it ? it is normal that this things happens?

I always keep hearing . A year after release the 2019 Mac Pro is obsolete. This is depressing because I figured Mac was going to go out with one last hooray like the original Apple mission statement. I never tested that but I would be VERY surprised if that CPU pulled form Mac Pro would not work in ordinary PC. I would not be afraid of it. I did the opposite - grabbed ordinary server CPU and installed it in Mac Pro

Just checked eBay prices. Horrible value unless you NEED tons of thunderbolt. HP Z8 G4 with PCIe expansion chassis, + Morgonaut's time to proxmox it is a much better value proposition. Will be interesting to see what next Mac Pro brings...

Why you wanna spend $3000-$4000 to upgrade the CPU ? Which is you can sale that Mac and get a 24 core Mac for cheaper lol CPU upgrade is not cheap

I did not spend any $4000, I spent $900. For sure you have no idea why I sold my top of the line Mac Studio Ultra fully maxed and use only the 2019 Mac Pro which gives me more performance and options than the Mac Studio can offer!
