Thanks for sharing. I don't know where I am going to put it, but I am going to make us one of those with a car jack. Very cool, and a great result.

Very nice! I have a similar set up. I was able to get a piece of steel pipe and a steel plate welded together to place on top of my impressions, it really helps to even out the impressions for me.

I love your videos. I am also looking in purchasing a hydraulic press. I see others use a 20-ton press; those are really pricey. Is there a reason for using a bigger press. I see some really good prices on 6-, 8- or 10-ton presses for a lot cheaper.
@SpiritMountainSilver10 ай бұрын
The 6 ton requires a LOT of muscle. I don’t mind it but I can see 20 ton doing the job much easier

Hi there. What kind of urethane do you use? I have purchased some dies but am having trouble finding the correct urethane. Thank you in advance.
@SpiritMountainSilver9 ай бұрын
Hey! I'm not sure of the exact kind I use, however, I know Potter Tools sells urethane for impression dies that works great.

Is there a way to use impression dues without a hydronic press?

You could try hammering but may take a lot of muscle!

Great video! Can you use a hydraulic press with shotplates?

Thank you! And I haven't personally tried one for a shot plate but I don't see why not :)

that's great explanation. do you cut the Urethane ? how can you cut it?

I do not cut the urethane myself. However I am sure you could use some heavy duty cutting shears to do so!

When using the impression to make a ring like you showed with the horseshoe do you need to put the die impression on a back plate too?
@SpiritMountainSilver2 жыл бұрын
Yes I like to-especially for rings!☺️ I usually will solder the impression to 22 gauge sheet and then saw out the horseshoe impression again!

I was thinking about getting one of these 6 ton presses, but have been unsure about their strength in comparison with the Harbor Freight 20 ton. (Of course I’d love a Potter 20 ton-but can’t justify the expense.
@SpiritMountainSilver2 жыл бұрын
I just recently got a 20 ton press from harbor freight! It is much stronger and requires much less effort than the 6 ton. I was able to bat out 10 impressions in 30 minutes as opposed to only 3 impressions with the 6 ton press in the same amount of time.

I also bought the 20 ton press from Harbor Freight, now I need to find room for it in a very tight work space. Peace All.
@kathybradbury Жыл бұрын
Yes, space is an issue. I am not as strong as I used to be, so the 20 ton may be necessary-Potter now has a manual 20 tone for about $1000, payable in installments.

Which urethane did you use? and can you get the same results with 18gage
@SpiritMountainSilver2 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure of the exact specs. However, I got the Urethane from Potter USA and Jim Brandvik Tools on etsy. 18 guage is much harder to work with since it is a thicker gauge. It will require a lot of annealing.

Thank you for an informative video. I'm looking into buying a hydraulic press and wondering what size will work. I have a few questions. One, does the 6 ton work on all of your dies? Two, is that flux you're putting over the marker? Why? Did you bolt down your hydraulic press? Thanks again! Nice video.
@SpiritMountainSilver2 жыл бұрын
Yup, I have found the 6 ton press works for all my dies...just requires some muscle. I like to flux a piece anytime I am heating it just as an extra precautionary to avoid fire scale. I do not bold down my press! Hope this helps!

I am having trouble finding a 6-ton hydraulic press On Amazon as your video directed. I did however find a 5-ton one. Will 5-ton still work for really deep clean good impressions? Also, please send me a link to the 6-ton one if you can. Thanks!❤

It’s a 6 ton hydraulic press from harbor freight. There’s a similar version that can be purchased on Amazon as well for around the same price. Link is in the description of the video 🙂
