Technically yes if you want to get into the semantics of it it's not technically pure silver. What I mean is that is sold sterling silver. I'm just trying to get the point across that it is solid and not plated or filled. 😅👍

Walking through a craft fair, my wife commented positively about these rings. My tinker brain said I can do this. Her birthday was coming up so perfect. I got a small dessert spoon (925 sterling silver), cut it, and slowly hammered it into shape. Beautifully polished, gave it to my wife and I was the talk of her social circle. Fast forward 10 months and we are hosting a group of friends for dinner. My kids are setting the table and one of them tells my wife that we were short one small spoon. She immediately made the connection and boy did I get an earful. To make matters worst, that silverware pattern had been discontinued for decades and can’t find a replacement. My wife bought a super cheap plastic set that she uses for my table setting when we are hosting as my penance. To this day, whenever silverware is involved, I am the talk of her social circle. Great video but make sure you don’t use your wife’s good silverware.
@GomeowCreations2 жыл бұрын
Lol well yeah that wasn't a good idea to use something that was her's without asking about it. I've told people in the past that brought up their grandparents or parents have a ton of this kind of silverware and I tell them not to use it without asking them or go by some just for this. 👍

I use stainless steel, much harder to work with but once finished look absolutely bad ass. But it is definitely a lot harder, but you have more choices if you can't find silver. And annealing it the taking wool adds such a beautiful patena. I highly recommend if you have the Patience because it is hard But well worth it in the end result. And very durable

Good video. I feel like we’re pretty similar in skill. I have a studio at home too. If you wanna connect, let me know. As for the patina rainbow color, it’ll turn dark over time just like leaving it in the LoS for for longer . You have to spray it with a clear coating to keep the air from further oxidizing it. It’s similar to flame coloring but most jewelers dont want to apply a clear coat because it changes the feel of the metal.

I have found sterling that was not marked more times than I could count at yard sales and thrift stores often people put it with the cheaper stuff because it isn't marked...I have gotten to where I can pretty much tell by the feel of it but I always confirm with my little test kit. I get silverware for less than a dollar apiece if it is unmarked..I dont feel this is deceptive ..I have the forethought to test it...people who are selling this stuff should do the same. ..like you mentioned it is much heavier..also the old silver has pockmarks as silver is quite soft and gets dents and dings over time! Great video!

I have been buying silverware and silverplate for 5 or so years at garage sales and flea mkts. I recently bought a 3 drawer silver chest at a rerun store,, for 49.00. It wasn't very old but it was beautiful with very delicate butterflies and flowers and it had 3 different partial sets of flatware. One was 16 pcs, silverplate from the 40's, one was 30 pcs, sterling silver from the 40's and one was 18 pcs, very modern stainless from Walmart. Most of the spoons were missing. All of the butter knives were there. Odd, I thought.

Lovely tutorial, very rich content, many thanks, Randy! One way to dispose of Liver of Sulphur - let it sit open air till it turns white, then pour it on your tomatoes. They love sulphur minerals. Once it is white, it becomes inert. Bet those rainbow rings would look cool if you polished up only the raised pattern and left the rainbow effect on the rest of the ring. Very lovely finish!

I still have my father's silver fork ring he had when he was a kid he made. It's bulky but great ring. Definitely would leave a mark on someone's forehead lol
