Seems to me half clay pot surrounding clematis roots would heat up during hot part of the day and not keep roots cool.

Maybe rather put some small plants in front of the clematis instead of this half pot stove..

I thought the roots had to be 30 to 50cm from a wall?

I've been growing them years regardless of what location I plant clematis I use plastic 40 mm pipe 12inch from base upwards and totally prevents any fungal disease or any insects gets in there. Give it ago it works a treat

Also I plant them exactly where the lady planted hers and never had any issues infact quite the opposite
