9 years on and still getting new viewers ^_^ The difference in visibility was remarkable. The first join (oxygen+gas) was "yeah, okay" but the second with the blowpipe - you could see the base metal heating, the solder softening and starting to melt before flowing. There was so much more detail available for our eyes. That's a significant improvement in control that I was not expecting. I'm presuming the yellow flare coming off the part was the soap burning off?

You can use a punching bag bloon, if you wanted to for your blow pipe air. I seen something interesting on youtube (Faradays clay blowtorch, glass works). This guy uses a bloon between his legs and a make shift cork air valve system, kind of a cool way to do it.

Had similar myself years ago when I worked in Devonport Dockyard. Home made from an old Brasso tin stuffed with wadding and filled with methylated spirits. The thin copper blow tube was clipped to the side with Terry clips and bent at right angles to blow through the flame. It worked very well and was much cheaper to run but probably not as hot. Good cheap way to start though. It might sound dangerous but they were quite safe to use. It is only the vapour that burns.

Circular breathing is like with a didgeridoo. I can do that. Never knew it was used for this kind of work. Thanks for that information. Learned a lot from this video. Thanks!

so far I've been melting alloy in my forge but cant really see what im doing tho and its hard to learn when youre only doing it once every couple months, I think im better off with the torch set, nowadays its down to 100$ not a big fan but...ultimately...I have been wasting so much charcoal and so many moulds and metal, just trying to get it right, so I think this has become a case of "spend money to save money" thanks man good informative video.

I have a question or rather a technical problem. So I consider the blow torch but I know I also will have to solder tiny jumprings onto bone pendants from time to time. I cannot personally see a way to perform the task of closing the jumpring with a blow torch, without ruining the pendant. Do you have any recommendations regarding how to protect the bone piece and if the task is even possible with that torch type.

don't heat the item too much, heat the bismuth and tin solder and apply it and let the solder flow with minimum heat
