This is by far one of the most comprehensive guide about Lantern softbox I have seen on the internet, as many people use a directional softbox instead. I have 2 questions though, would you prefer the 65cm or the 85cm version more? Also if I dont have a boom stand, any change I can still use the curtain (skirt ) to simulate a normal directional softbox? So I can have the Lantern use as both omnidirectional and directional softbox?
@LoveWhatYouDo2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I would say always get the biggest lantern you can use. When it comes to soft light, the bigger the modifier, the better. Only get the smaller one if you can't fit the bigger one. The skirt can be used in pieces, so you can certainly use it like a normal soft box. The boom stand is helpful for using it in the middle of a scene and hiding it overhead from that camera, but the lantern works well in most other scenarios even if you don't have a boom. You should save up for a boom by the way. They are great for a lot of things -- including to hold a backlight.

Great review! QUESTION: I would love to hear more about how you find it for flash photography - compared to soft boxes?
@LoveWhatYouDo2 жыл бұрын
Great question! I’m more of a video guy, so I rarely use flash. I like light sources that are constantly on because I can see how light is reacting on my subject by eye at all times. I’m sure using a flash would give you similar results, you’d just have to take test photos to see what you are doing.

@@LoveWhatYouDoi would like to ask you what's the difference between lantern sizes, which one to use in which situation and how the performance and their behavior is affected by size, thanks!

I don’t know why they just don’t name APS-C lenses by the Full Frame equivalent size.
@andersistbesser10 ай бұрын
Because a apsc user does not care about the numbers of a system they dont own. Full frame is not the be all end all.
@ayuchanayuko9 ай бұрын
Because the effect of stuff like bokeh depends on the aperture and actual focal length, not by the effective (cropped) focal length.

The diffuser material is good? It's a grid cloth type of fabric like Aputure or different?
