Love the explanation ! I do love more if you could put the video comparasion side by side so we can easily see the difference

I love that you’re using a 60w light in that softbox. Totally answered the question I had about using my molus 60w with my godox 80cm octabox

Lantern looks softer and more pleasant

This is a nice video. I would have liked to see the softbox without the grid, since the grid adds significant directionality to the light versus the softbox with just a translucent diffuser.

Thanks! I was just looking for a video like this. I ordered the Aputure lantern for my little studio recently, because I want my grey background lit up too. I do coffee videos, and I would kind of like the light spilled evenly. We shall see how that works. Cheers!

Nice comparison! But I think we could all benefit by understanding what a lantern light would be good for during practical purposes. Lanterns are great if you are shooting a scene at a dinner table where you want everyone's faces lit around the table. If you were to use a softbox for that situation, you might have a brighter exposure in the center - not on the faces where they should be.

I think it will be good for illuminating my painting process of my art and also help function as a task light. I'm looking to the Godox compact daylight light and my ceiling lights are daylight also so I'm hoping this will help my whole working and filming experience so I can finally start KZbin an improve my posts for instagram.

Good comparison. I was taught to point lanterns straight down and I have always used it that way. Also, I think you should specify that you are using a soft box AND a grid because a soft box without the grid would change the light, especially the spill.

The beauty of the lantern is there are more ways to control the spill like with an optional skirt or anything DIY to help with the spill. For my video shoots I've used the lantern on my lights a lot more than my umbrella for the key light.

Quite a good comparison. Thank you so much!

Nice video. These are always helpful. I would say if you pointed the lantern down you would have a much more natural roll off on your face and the intensity of the LED element wouldn't be pointed at the back wall. I think if you took that crate off the octobox the spill would be even worse than the lantern.

Just the video I needed to see! I recently bought the Godox ml60bi, and this was perfect perspective.

To control the lantern spill you can purchase the skirt that fits on to it. This directs better
