Very informative but still amazed how the first demonstration the scrap fell in the band hold of the board. My OCD was satisfied

Appreciated the advice on how to use the skiver with belts. I'm on my second belt, but am skiving it myself for the first time and your advice about short batches of skiving is key to not accidentally chopping off the end of my belt. Thank you!

I absolutely love these videos! Short, consise, and to the point, yet still VERY informative and encouraging! Thanks, Weaver!

Great informative video as always. I find it also very helpful to use these tools over a glass plate. The tool wont bite into the glass and you can get closer to the edges while still having a strong backing. The greatest problems I have had using them is when I don't have a sharp blade. The blade sharpness is crucial. Always work with a sharp blade and it prevents some accidents when a blade is dull it tends to skip or catch on the hide and slips away. Thanks again for your info videos.

I have tandys version of this tool. I actually find it very difficult to use and get clean consistent skives. Had it for some months now. Kudos to anyone who can successfully use it

Me too. I absolutely don't like this tool. I ended up buying a real Japanese skiving knife, better to use as long as it's sharp.

Right, Chuck. Hand slivers have a place in any leathercraft shop. I always need a little something and not try damaging. What I'm working on, especial as you get older. A hand skiver can be that quick answer to a problem. I have always been great with a skiving knife or machine, but there are times I reach for the hand skiver. It's quick for small jobs that are a bit long for a strap of the width. Digs in just right. Does take practice for any tool.

NOW I get it! Ruined a beautiful dog collar a few days ago by skiving right through it. But I didn't lift up after it started to bite. Thanks! Time for some practice.

Am I the only one who noticed how the sliced leather went directly in the cutout of that poly board?. 🤣 Only Chuck could do this by accident and if it wasn’t I’d believe that too. Great tutorial as always, sir.

I have been using this tool like this but still don't get consistent results. I thought maybe I was using it for the wrong job, but looks like I just need to practice more at it. Thanks!

Are the replacement blades a universal size or are there different sizes? I have a knock off brand of the tool and would like to know if I should be trying to find replacement blades elsewhere.

Guess I've got to get one of these. I just have the cheapo version, where it's sheet metal bent into a tri-angular tube....works ok, but this one looks much better. ....Like most things, looks like it takes some practice before using it on a real project.

Hi Brad, It does take a little bit of practice but it's a handy tool once you get the hang of it!

Can you use on a small piece of soft more flexible leather?

My blade broke on the edge. Very awkward tool; as well as the "Safety Beveler". Attempted to skive; but you have to pull it Towards you, which doesn't seem safe. 😕

Cool. The feather needs a stone or the non-leather blade edge gouges.

I hate my tandy skiver. Is this the best? Any recommendations?
@WeaverLeatherSupply5 жыл бұрын
Hi L. Jay, You can use a French Edger to skive leather. Below is a video using one to thin a piece of leather. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mXOtgqqqnr-ep9k starts around the one-minute mark. Hope that helps!

Should the leather be wet to make it easier or should I just skive while it’s dry?
@WeaverLeatherSupply4 жыл бұрын
Hi Brooke, You'll want the leather to be dry when you skive.
