The video makes it look easy. The reality is, it took us a 1/2 hour to get one booklet together and the fingers of the comb keep coming apart when using the booklet.

Can it punch 2mm mdf board as well?

For this particular machine, we wouldn't recommend it. There are more heavy-duty punches on our site that would be able to handle 2mm mdf board better.

Not with this particular machine. If you want to punch shorter documents it is best to get a machine that has disengageable dies so that you don't end up with a half hole at the edge of your paper.

I have a problem with keeping the paper straight. It seems to be all the way in, but it either misses the paper or punches it crooked. Any suggestions? The one I got wasn't even the one the box said it was, so I may have gotten a return.

This type of machine is only designed for use with plastic combs. Wire binding machines use double loop wire made from steel and operate in a similar way.

+Laila Rodrigues Great question, except this machine is outdated and not sold anymore! It's really going to come down to how often you will be using the machine, and how much you are willing to pay. The cheaper ones punch less pages at once, which increases your binding time--so watch out for that. For personal use it's usually fine, but with any regular use you'll want one that has a decent punch capacity.
