How to use a NanoStation as an outdoor WiFi AP

While we would recommend using a dedicated UniFi Access Point for outdoor areas that need WiFi coverage, there are scenarios where a directional device such as a NanoStation M2 might be useful. For example, reaching a further away location in a specific area as well as providing access without a dedicated routing device.

I have followed all of these steps several times and can not see the SSID on my phone. I do have the M5 version if that makes a difference. I did the factory reset, each time I have tried this and can stil not see wifi showing up on my phone. Should I use a different bandwidth for 5G? Not sure what else I need to do.

@@hostifi I'm trying to configure a newly purchased Nanostation M2 and having trouble and hope you can help. I have a detached garage 30' from the house where the host computer and router/modem are. The garage contains a wifi capable smart TV that I would like be able to stream movies. I have all hardware installed and connected properly and powered. Initially I was able to log into airOS but something was wrong and wifi signal was very weak. So I tried a few things suggested on the internet and now I can no longer log into airOS. As it stands now the device is no longer recognized on the network. I know it's just some settings issues but when it comes to network problems I'm out of my league. Can you possibly help with this?

I'm new to using Ubiquiti gear and, just wanted to see if you could help me. (I can't seem to figure it out on my own) I have 2 - M2 locos setup in PTP / AP repeater mode. (One on the side of my patio connected to the router / ethernet and it's facing the one on my barn for wireless internet) It works great but, I'm not able to login to each individual nano station, to change the settings / update firmware while connected to the new Ubiquiti Wi-Fi. (Right now, I just connect to each via the ethernet cable). Is this possible to have it setup like that? I noticed none of the Ubiquiti server stuff, doesn't show the networks unfortunately.

When you set them up, did you change the IP mode from static IP to DHCP? Otherwise what you’re going to have is two NanoStations on 192.168.1.20.

@@hostifi I finally got the notification for this message. lol. Everything has been running pretty good. I have a static IP on both M2 devices and that is getting the internet pushed to the 2nd M2. I have an Aircube AC connected to that one, for better wifi range (In router mode I think). In the UISP app, I can connect to the Aircube and the first M2. I finally ended up being able to connect to the M2 wirelessly. I guess I didn't use the correct static IP info, for whatever reason. It's all good now!

Unifi mounted on wall outside WiFi coverage drops as soon as I go inside why

Is it a UniFi AP or the NanoStation used in this video? Regardless, it sounds like the wall is likely blocking the signal.

Hey James, thanks for watching. When you set the NanoStation up, did you set the IP address to DHCP? It comes set as static IP at the start before config.

@@hostifi one more question if I may. If I have a hardwired pc and Nas on my network connected via a switch. If I add a M5 in router mode and also enable the AP, I could then access my nas files via WiFi right?

Hey, probably not I wouldn’t recommend using it in router mode if it just for connecting WiFi devices. You’re better off in bridge mode to ensure connectivity and reducing double NAT
