You are so right about this claim noncontact voltage tester. I have one in each of my tool bags. I have given them to my nephews when they do electrical work in their own homes. I want to keep them safe. This device is so necessary if you’re doing any electrical work at all.

Never at work with out it but I have found the one with the flashligt to be very handy. Soon after you start carrying it around it power cycles and beeps in your pocket. I think the battery spring just needs to be more robust. Sometimes a small washer helps for a while.

This came with my new Dewalt multimeter and I didn’t know what to do with it. I thought it was very cool going around the kitchen touching it to the Keurig wire, the air fryer, etc. But then I touched it to a mixer that was not plugged in and it gave me a positive reading. What’s up with that?

Is there a beep feature on your model? I have the NCVT-1.. It beeps pretty loud repeatedly along with the red light flashing but sometimes only one beep but most of the time continuously and it doesn't stop until you pull away.. Which by the way your link seems to be upgraded from your NCVT-2 to the NCVT-3 Also mine does not have any selection for different voltage but it does say on the side sensitivity ranch 50-1000 V also mine only has a power button which can unfortunately be very easily bumped! And I think I remember receiving a notice from Amazon that my model was recalled lol

These are banned in the UK in most industrial settings as they do not work on some cables such as SWA and the only approved method for testing for dead is prove the tester, test all power sources including earth and neutral. Then prove the tester again. This is standard in the UK but non contact testers and volt test screwdrivers are banned for safety reasons
@Horizon301.5 ай бұрын
Would this work for basic diy though in the UK? If you put it against the cable
@3D-Dan5 ай бұрын
On internal cables yes, on external armord cables no, sometimes they flag in dead cables with transient voltages such as RF but as they are not dependable and UK voltage is 230v they are not used, only volt testers such as fluke are used to verify the voltage with a lo-Z meter and in industry meters are always tested with a check box before and after testing
@Horizon301.5 ай бұрын
@@3D-Dan I assume a security light would be fine with it then, nothing special in terms of cable.

How do I know when to use 12-1000 or 70-1000?
@AzamKhan-sy2tb Жыл бұрын
I think 70 to 1000 is automatic whereas 12 to 1000 is manual. So if your looking for an accurate reading I'd go with the 12 to 1000. This will pick up all voltage even faintest ones. Thr automatic will focus on thr dangerous voltage m3wnint it will ignore anything below the threshold. I would recommend manual one. But please don't take my word. Do your own research before testing out.

This tester does not tell you if you have power in the outlet or a switch. It tells you there's voltage on the line,but you can have perfectly good reading ,indicating good line and the outlet does not power anything. Easy test proves the pen is not a tool to detect power in the wire- rub the tip of the pen against any plastic bag. It will glow red and chirp( if the function is present). Needless to say , the wattage shown is minuscule.If the live wire got shorted under the screw in an outlet and there is an oxide/carbon build-up on the wire,the pen will show you a perfectly good outlet,which cannot power anything.But keeping in mind all the limitations, a useful gadget
