How to use a remote engine starter, great for when cranking an engine from the engine bay. Lots of versions out there, this one is great for the new home mechanic or when working in the field on your own. Be careful when working with car electrics, research first, before undertaking.

So do you attach it onto the nut where the fat wire is connected to the starter? I am trying to understand why the wire is so thin on that tool. Seems like the current will burn it out.
@drivewaydiyer6504
@drivewaydiyer6504 2 жыл бұрын
We’ll it’s only a 12 volt current and it works very well. All it does is bypass starting from the positive battery post to the live post on the starter. The gauge of wire is sufficient for that. Haven’t had any issues with it.

would it still 'just' turn starter motor over ...whith ignition switched of? so could do ..compresion tests whithout injectors flooding the cylinders?

Pull the fuel pump relay or fuses. It will still crank though.

@@drivewaydiyer6504 ok,thanks. I just thought a circuit from battery to starter would be isolated to just starter,spinning fly wheel whithout troubling the rest of system..feel a bit stupid lol. Thanks again fella.

Thanks. Bought one from Harbor Freight in Arizona about $11 but I needed info on how to connect it. Would using contacts from removed starter relay work as well? Thx

How do you use it with a manual transmission since the clutch needs to be pushed

Get a buddy to press the clutch He can also press the button on this tool so you don't need to do anything

If you use this to start the car, then can you take it off the starter and battery with the engine still running? Thanks

Just take them off, never had an issue, don’t let the lead dangle and ground anything or get tangled up in any moving parts.

As long as there no immobiliser, it should work or the immobiliser works, should be fine. Try it.

Just have it in neutral. You could have the clutch in, as another safety measure.👍

It doesn't work to start the car on the newer cars with chip keys. The engine just rotates.

Marco Rubio Yeah I worked at a pick n pull in Oakland Ca. Many of the guys there were ex car thieves. Lots of times we were sold cars without keys. They would show me all the tricks. Like with newer cars, (at the time 2005- 2009) you could still bypass, but you had to also bypass a relay. The relay would shutdown the car and prevent it from use until the right chip key was input, and a series of resets was done. But at least at the time, there was always a way.

roadstar499 it all depends, newer luxury cars had those security features. However i never learned which vehicles and years specifically.

It’s still useful though because usually you are trying to crank the engine to check for other things like fuel injector pulse or spark. And you can’t be at the engine while also turning the key.

Yah, not too helpful. The only thing I needed to know us where to connect the switch. Connect to the battery and then somewhere down in the engine bay on in the starter.

The live post, that’s it. There’s live and ground, you’re just connecting two positives.👍

You connect to smaller signal wire to solenoid. The two large terminal are for high current to starter motor, could burn up your remote switch, dangerous.
