I've been using one of these and it is really effective. But if the soil is too compact, like in Summer time, nothing much will happen except that you clean the field of crop leftovers and dry weeds. You can also use it in another way: pull it up, go on reverse and then drop it on top of the bush. Then you drag the bush out. Brier is common here in Portugal, and it can invade a whole field. If you cut it in pieces, you are multiplying the number of plants since it can easily set new roots.

those who feel the name of the equipment is wrong don't know farmers and different regions. I'm new to farming the hardest part was learning plow names. mold board plow my seed rep called it aka a bottom plow. seen it called both. anyway this is a great piece of quality American equipment. it on my tractor worked it yesterday and will be later today. I use it to open new feilds. so it's goes through old hay feilds and all kind of small brush and tree stumps. I wish I could post my video ripping out virgin land with it. mine is the 5 shank and I'm pulling it with deere 3038e. not a bad plow at all. money well spent.

Some people just have to argue ,demean,degrade or just have to be keyboard bad asses... Those are called chisel plows, spring toothed harrows, field cultivators, field plows, all purpose plows and the list goes on. It all depends on the region a person is from ... So your right.

Hi Ted . Thanks for the demo. Would it be a good idea to use this type of item on a small hp. tractor such as what I have-16 hp-4x4, before I plow to make plowing easier to turn the ground for the first time?Thanks,Al.

I like that thing. I was going to make a spike tooth harrow but if I can find one of those I will get it. I want to reseed my pasture fields and that looks like the ticket to break up ground just enough.
@bigmedicine8042

I have one of these but if ground is really full of chafe and trash it will will ball up under the plow and not work good at all. It works real good after a breaking plow to break up the the hard pan dirt that may be deep.

I just purchased a WD45 Diesel that I'm eventually going to do a 3 pt hitch, add an auxiliary hydraulic system for a bucket, and power steering. I'm looking for a good plow for it for the garden as an alternative to a turning plow. I know, when new, it was billed as a 3 plow tractor. What do you recommend?
@TheDuckofDoom.
@TheDuckofDoom. Жыл бұрын
I have a 2wd with the correct R-1 tread, setup about 3600 pounds(with me) and it will pull 5 shanks nicely. I'm on the edge where sometimes I start to loose traction first and others times the shank springs give first. The tractor model was independently tested as 22.5hp to the tires (28hp engine), I'm usually traction limited in 2nd at 4-5mph and power limited(engine bogs before wheels spin) in 3rd at 6-7mph. I can pull the cultivator full depth in medium well-settled soil at 4-5mph or do a re-fluff at 6mph. (The higher speed throws the dirt better if your just keeping weeds down. But it better be a smooth field and even then not really worth it for passes under 300ft long.) I usually use 2mph for places with possible tree roots just to avoiding beating the equipment, but 5mph is good for sod or brambles. I haven't tried it with the wide V-tips for shallow weeding, I would need a 2 more shanks to properly get my full tractor width(66" outside-outside) and I don't have any decent ag shops in my half of the state so just finding the right fit would be a mail order trial and error affair. (Same basic cultivator design as in the video but from an old defunct company so small sizing and angle differences may be an issue.)

What size would you recommend for a 60HP tractor? It has a 6.5ft wheel spacing on back. Would this work for category 2 if the pins were changed out?

It appears there are several names for this piece of equipment. I bought one of these off an old farmer and he called it a "jitterbug". These are good versatile tools. One good use for it is clawing out briars, honeysuckle, or poison oak, ivy or any vine type weed. You have to be cautious with the Poison Oak and Ivy though especially if you are highly allergic which fortunately I am not. You might think that the shanks would get clogged up when using it to clean up as mentioned above but, generally raising or backing up with the tool positioned correctly will clear it out.

Yeah that thing isn't all that new . When I was growing up, we used one to get the tobacco Fields ready. plow the fields in the fall let them sit all winter, then use that in the spring to get them ready again. Before you run the disk across it. We call him a Tillis tool. That was the name they gave them back then . The gentleman I work for got one from the Ford tractor dealership. It was made by Ford. And no I do not think that's a chisel plow.

When would you use a plough and when would you use this ripper?
@djalasdair4984
@djalasdair4984 6 жыл бұрын
because a plough takes the surface and buries it, it inverts the soil to kill the turf / weeds. This breaks up an already clean surface into a softer surface

For our sin, breaking God’s law, we are punished by burning in Hell for eternity, a place with no hope for our salvation. But God loved you, along with everyone else, so much and with all his heart that he gave his only Son, Jesus Christ, to this cursed world to be crucified on the cross. Now whosoever accepts Jesus Christ, God’s Son, as their Lord and Savior and believes he rose from the dead the third day will be saved from eternal damnation in Hell and live in Heaven in paradise with him forever. Repent of your sins and accept the Lord Jesus Christ or face God’s righteous judgment.
