So the number 30 on the engineering scale represents a 1/4. Correct?

Thank you. This was very helpful. I recently bought a ruler because I needed one, and I ended up buying an architectural scale on impulse purely on aesthetics, and I had no idea what this thing was. The side marked "16" seemed to make sense, so I was off to the races. But the other sides didn't make sense to me right away, and I also didn't understand why the finer scale before the zero was divided in twelfths or sixths. Now it makes sense. As you described in the video, the main scale tells me how many feet are represented for a given inch, and then I was able to infer that the marks on the finer scale indicated either the number of inches or the number of double-inches, depending on the particular scale. Thanks again!

are you sure you explained the engineering scale right? i thought 1:50 meant 1 foot = 50 feet not 1 inch = 50 feet perhaps im wrong?
@JWKDESIGN
@JWKDESIGN 4 жыл бұрын
Hey Spike, thanks for watching. The 1:50 means 1 inch on the scale (in your hand) represents 50 feet on site (real world). So a 7.5" line on your paper would represent 375' in the real world (using 50 scale). Make sense?

@@JWKDESIGN ya that makes sense. i do abit of scale modeling and 1:50 scale in that hobby means 1 unit of measurement is equal to 50 units in real life weather feet inches or cm. so like if i was doing a model in 1:6th scale and i wanted to add a person who was 6 feet tall in real life they would be 1 foot in the model but i guess engineering scale works differently i guess thats why i got confused

Great Video! Please Help! Custom Home Construction Drawings were delivered to us incorrectly. After checking the drawings, and using my scale ruler, the Drawings are not to scale, despite the printouts reading as if they are to scale. They read 1/8" = 1' Scale. And 3/4" = 1' Scale. We contacted the Home Designer., but they responded saying "the drawings are not meant to be scaled with a ruler and that this is fairly typical." This response was shocking as we need accurate building plans, so that we may build appropriately with the Architects, Engineers, and Designers, as You stated. What leverage do we have to pressure them to comply? Is there a national agency that we can use? Otherwise, we need to dispute this with the Credit Card Company perhaps. Thanks.

Hey Butterfly, thanks for watching. I'd say the best thing to do would be to get the digital files and print them at the scale you'd like. Of course, I'd hope there are written dimensions on the drawings as well... I also hope you have a written contract with whomever drew up the plans - that would be the basis of any discussion and dispute. If you simply bought plans online however, you might be out of luck, outside of getting those digital files...

However you can work out the dimensions by applying proportionate ratio of something like a standard door, stair , wall size to your room sizes ..this is the most explicit I can get trying to explain what I'm trying to say in words.In sgort you will have to tailor make a scale on a card board strip by taking the size of a standard thing represented on those ( print outs handed to you) and then apply to other elements of the drawing and figure out th e dimensions.😊 wish u all the best.

How do you determine the size of the sheet of paper that the architectural drawing was printed in? I get interior drawings sent to me in an electronic files. Obviously, if I print out the drawings on a 2’ by 3’ a 1/4 inch scale will render different results than if I printed out the drawing on a 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper.

Without guidance from the draftsman, sounds like a case for trial-and-error. Print it out at 100% scale, and verify the scale against a known element (door opening, window size, CMU wall etc. Thanks for watching Ernest!

Ive seen mechanical scale rulers, would this be a smaller scale than the architecture ruler?
@JWKDESIGN
@JWKDESIGN 5 жыл бұрын
Yes, mechanical scale rulers get into much smaller increments, breaking down the inch into 50th's and 60th's. Architectural scales provide increments as large as 1.5" and 3" to a foot... Thanks for watching Rumeel12708!

Hi dear, it will be more better to teach the architectural and engineering scales, and how to set it in AutoCAD,,, an advise that extra speaking often divert the learners... so speaking to the point is more better or first talk about the whole scenario and then focus on the subject without moving up & down but only to inform that in which places or in which situation these scales needs to be utilized....
