I just got a San Martin automatic watch with a screw in crown and let me tell you it got me by surprise how different it works from the other watches I own. It took a few tries to get the crown out and set the time and then screw back in the crown. It is tricky but manageable if you are new to these kind of watches. 😅

i took over a Vario Trenchwatch from a friend because i find it such a beuatifull watch. He said before i bought it that the crow screws in very difficult. And indeed it is turning in but very very hard to wind it in the treath. Is there someting wrong with the watch? It is under warranty till may next year!

Do you mean it is hard for the crown to latch unto the screw? Try to turn the crown more with your fingers so the chances of latching onto the screw is higher. Try not to screw in fully if ypu think it is difficult to screw out. You will still get the water resistance if it is 90% screwed in.

@@VARIOeveryday No i mean the turning of the crown onto the threat is hard and difficult.The crown catches the thread quite easily but than to turn in further onto the tube is difficult and hard. Also it seems that the turnung down the crown is in two steps. First part easier than heavy and almost on the end it turns easier once again. Also unsrewing is in te same way!

I can’t screw down the crown after setting the time. Any suggestions for remedy? The crown keeps popping outwards by the internal spring that cannot make the watch for waterproof.

After you push it in, turn clockwise as much as you can. Sometimes the crown doesn't catch the thread and will pop outwards. Another tip would be to turn the crown clockwise abit first before pushing in and turning so that you don't have to turn clockwise too much to catch the thread.

@@VARIOeveryday Thanks for your quick reply. I tried your recommended 2 methods but the crown still didn’t go into the thread even though I cleaned it by tooth floss. So sad.

Sometimes my crown wont screw down all the way after I wind it. Is that normal?

The video was made as an excuse to blame others for not screwing it down properly. The truth is that the whole mechanism of the screw down is low quality and will junk out soon. Good luck.
