This is my 2nd year doing my blood typing lab, but I bought a set from Carolina that doesn't include the lancets and alcohol swabs so I had to find them elsewhere.

Luckily, I came across some Spring-Loaded Lancets at a Medical Supply Store. They are definitely worth the money. You'll get less complaining from students, less running around to help students prick themselves, and less chance of someone poking themselves with a contaminated lancet. The lancets I purchased were 21 gauge in thickness. I know that the diabetic lancets can be so small that blood won't come out easily (those can be between 28 - 31 gauge) so beware of the size if you decide to buy spring-loaded lancets!

That was 100 times more blood than is needed! Try thinner lancet. Noticed you used a 21 gauge, that’s huge! Try a 30 or 33

For some but for me I ordered the eldon card 3 times and the lancelets never ever worked on me ! Barely a drop of blood comes out. I’ve followed directions and tried everything even my own sanitized sewing needle last min. It’s so not fair. I think I’m just gonna get this.

Some poor information here, alchohol dries out your skin and makes it more painful. A good thorough wash with warm water is enough. Try to avoid the pad of the finger for two reasons. One if you are doing this everyday like some diabetics you can damage the nerves in your finger. And two it just hurts alot more. Try to go for the fleshy part next to the nail. Wash your hands with warm water and a bit of soap afterwoulds.

Thanks for the info! I don't mind the pain but what I fear is the stinging pain that might last for hours like paper cut lol.

I showed two of my nurses the middle finger when they gave me a finger prick. Of course, I never intended to insult these lovely persons, and they understood that it was just a joke. LOL!!!!

Sorry, I only used this brand for blood typing-- but I used it because the gauge was big enough to allow for a large drop of blood. if you go with a smaller gauge (meaning like 28 - 31) the needle is smaller so it shouldn't hurt as much.

These may have a loud noise, but are way better than the lancets that were basically tiny knives. :) And really, it didn't hurt. I offered my students band-aids but many of them realized it wasn't necessary since the wound closed up immediately.

You are right, I am thankful that these tiny knives are a thing of the past, they must have hurt indeed. I once stuck a blank needle in my finger and it felt like a bee sting. My lancing device, a Microlet 2, reduces the pain to a very faint prick. It is absolutely ridiculous to make a fuss about finger pricks done with lancing devices. For fun, see 'Craigs Blood Test Fiasco', also on KZbin.

I used this method to give a blood test, but the blood was so thick once in the small pot (not sure if parts of it already coagulated) that it wouldn't.. move around when i inverted the pot. Is this normal?

You're supposed to add water to the well before adding the blood. I'd look over the directions to the blood test again.

Does this brand of lancet lock the needle after the first "prick" to prevent reuse? I would like to have my students do this lab and we want to minimize the possibility of blood contamination as much as possible.

You can read more in the description of the video about my thoughts on this lancet, in which, yes, I'd definitely use them again. And no, you really never see the needle. These are way better than the lancet blades if you ask me.
