Thanks very much. First guy to get a Triac firing correctly on LTSpice that I have seen.

Works perfectly. Thank you for a concise and clear example. The user below who corrected the diac model error is to be commended.

thanks for showing how to add diac and triac model. i was trying to simulate the same circuit.

Thank you for this video. Normally you will not expect a Triac gate voltage above 1.5 V relative to MT1. 8.01 in video you show V(L)-V(RC). I think this voltage should drop to about 2 V just after Triac is triggered. But it only drops to about 20 V. So I think something is wrong, and I guess the Triac model got problems. I started with a triac model proposed as an educational dimmer circuit provided by the normal download of LTspice today. This model also got problems, but only in the positive half period with high gate voltage. And then I started to see if I could find some information on internet. I have also tried an unsuccessful attempt to change model. When I search internet, you got several people reporting some problems with the Triac model. So I hope for your help here.

Attention! If you get an error "Unknown parameter "*" in LTSpice. Here is the solution: There is a typo in the st_diacs.lib in line 79. Line 79 of this file is: R_R1 N02098 TRG 1.462*{Tr} but which instead ought to be: R_R1 N02098 TRG {1.462*Tr}

Dude, seriously, you're a spice beast. How did you pick up a small typo like that? Thank you very much for the tip.

Whe I use the Triac ltspice says "unknown subcircuit called in: xu1 n001 n003 n006 triac" do you know how to solve that?
@peterklokman43237 ай бұрын
It is shown in the video; from 5:16 to 6:48; you have to import the behavior of the diac and the Triac, and relate that to the schematic

Is that a dimmer pcb you were holding at 02:37 ? or what ?

Kind of dimmer, it is the heating/fan controller board of a hot-air soldering station.

It seems that ST changed their website and now the SPICE models have disappeared :-( Nothing we can do about that, unfortunately. Maybe you can try some of the models from Littlefuse? www.littelfuse.com/technical-resources/spice-models.aspx
