I've tried installing other esims and thinking I did it correctly, went on my travels to return home to find a huge bill from my network provider😢 Your video was FANTASTIC!!! Being able to stop, start and rewind the video as though I was being given a personal installation session from you was brilliant. You covered everything I would see and I am now more confident in the esim installation this time. Fingers crossed it all works out once I'm away and more importantly no extra charges from my current provider when I return home. Wish me luck. Many, many thanks.

Hey Rose! Lots of luck for your trip. As long as you have data roaming toggled off on your primary SIM and Allow Mobile Data Switching toggled off on your eSIM then your carrier shouldn't charge you any roaming fees. If they still do, then let me know as I will personally visit their houses and throws eggs at them, because that's entirely unfair. All the best! ^Jonny

Monito, I was hoping you could help with a question. Once we are in the country we are visiting, and we have activated our Airalo eSIM, and turned data roaming on for the eSIM, and turned data roaming off for our primary/home country cellular provider, SIM; should we also toggle, "Turn on This Line" to "off" for our primary/home country cellular SIM? Hope that makes sense. And thanks again for the awesome video. I watched a few others, and yours is by far the best I found.
@Monitodotcom2 ай бұрын
It isn't necessary, but you could toggle Turn on This Line to off as a means of peace of mind. If data roaming is set to on for your eSIM, and Mobile Data in Settings is also set to your new eSIM with Allow Mobile Data Switching toggle off then you wouldn't need to turn your Primary SIM off entirely, but again, it can provide peace of mind. Just remember if you switch it off you obviously won't be able to receive or make calls and texts. Hope that helps.^Jonny

There's just one thing. As Airalo's esim is only for data transmission, you can't make or receive phone calls. Which, in principle, wouldn't be a problem since nowadays everything is done via the internet, right? Until the day my car rented by SIXT broke down in the interior of Spain, in the middle of nowhere, and the only way to contact the rental company was BY PHONE CALL! It is serious. There was no WhatsApp number or anything on the rental papers. Only one telephone number to contact in case of an accident or vehicle breakdown. A good-natured Spaniard who was passing by on the road stopped and was kind enough to make the call. Here's a tip.

Hello Susan, I think in your case a regional eSIM would be the best choice, possibly this one (depending on your usage) www.airalo.com/asia-esim/asialink-30days-10gb. Hey there! Thanks for your really helpful video! I would really appreciate your advice for my situation! I am from Australia and looking to purchase an E-Sim for an upcoming trip in a few months. I will be travelling to the UK, the Netherlands and Germany. I am just a little confused when it comes to the lines chosen to make sure that I don't get any nasty unexpected charges. The other thing is that my home network provider doesn't actually have international roaming available, therefore I am not sure how I would even get charged. Would you suggest that when travelling, I pick the travel e-sim line for calls/texts as well as mobile data and then the primary line for iMessage and Facetime? As this uses the mobile data from the e-sim anyway? I just get a little lost on knowing how my apps work and how i can be contacted when overseas picking different lines. I guess if the e-sim is chosen for calls and texts (no one from home will be calling or sending normal text messages therefore no charges) however i will still be able to use imessage, facetime, fb messenger and whatsapp with my home mobile number because they will just use the mobile data from the travel e-sim? Hopefully this all makes sense! Looking forward to hearing from you. :)
@Monitodotcom10 ай бұрын
Hey Alice! I'll try to help answer your questions the best I can and I've broken them down into sections. Firstly, switch data roaming off on your personal sim card, just to make sure you avoid any unexpected data roaming charges. I referenced this here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hWPLeKqGi5l-ldUsi=Vraaylt2DdA3Y72n "Would you suggest that when travelling, I pick the travel e-sim line for calls/texts as well as mobile data and then the primary line for iMessage and Facetime? As this uses the mobile data from the e-sim anyway?" - Are you looking to get a Discover+ eSIM so you not only have data but you can also use it to make calls and texts? "however i will still be able to use imessage, facetime, fb messenger and whatsapp with my home mobile number because they will just use the mobile data from the travel e-sim?" - Yes, exactly, but for this to occur you'll need to select your Primary sim for iMessage & FaceTime. Airalo also reference this in their activation guide (kzbin.info/www/bejne/goCmmWhsjr6pi7ssi=-a3NpDQZ6mOzHjbE). BY selecting your home number, you'll receive messages and FaceTime calls while using the cellular data with your eSIM. I'll wait to hear from you, thanks. ^Jonny

WhatsApp will still work with a data-only eSIM. Your phone number works like your account ID or username, so deactivating your normal carrier SIM won't impact your WhatsApp, all you need is access to the internet. ^Jonny

I use the esim yesterday when I went to the states. I had to figure it out on my own and it was confusing but I did at least have my local data turned off for roaming. Now after watching this video I understand it a bit more I am heading to England's next month and will need to download a new one

Essentially retry activation. Should it be activated before arrival?

Hi, when you are in the hotel and would like to use the hotel WiFi, do you need to turn Airalo off?
@naifgobory62126 ай бұрын
Best thing is using an old device from your shelf , to avoid confusion between the eSIM and the your original (primary) physical sim which you use in your homeland

That's great advice, it'll be even more useful when time goes by and more 'older' phones are eSIM capable. ^Jonny

This is a great video, but I have a question... at 7:10 you indicate that for iMessage you should select "Primary" to use your regular plan for messages and facetime. If you do that will you not incur data charges while traveling? I would think you would want to select 'personal' for the eSim plan here. If you select Primary because you aren't traveling YET how do you get back to this option to select the eSim plan for your trip?
@Monitodotcom6 ай бұрын
Hey! Yeah that's actually what Airalo recommends, you select iMessage as Primary so you can still receive iMessages and FaceTime calls, but it won't use your data because your Mobile Data will be set to your eSIM. ^Jonny

I opted for a physical SIM from Optus $35 deal for 90 gb for 28 days. I bought it at Brisbane airport. The process was very quick and seamless. Unfortunately, upon ‘recharging’ for the next 28-days the cheaper option of $12 for less data is only a 7-day deal. So you end up paying $35 again to get the 28-day allowance.

$35 for 90gb is pretty damn good though! Surprised you needed to recharge/top-up. Were you using it with a hotspot? ^Jonny

Wondering how this will help with Roaming data? At present $35 Sim for 40 GB is going for $12. Much appreciated for your input

Hey mate, can two people use the eSim while travelling? (individual device). Thanks
@Monitodotcom3 ай бұрын
Hey mate! Unfortunately, eSIMs can only be installed once and onto a single device - so your only option would be to tether or use one of the phones as a hotspot. Not ideal but this could be adequate just for low data usage. If you do choose this option, make sure to look for an eSIM that allows hotspotting. Cheers. ^Jonny
