I want to AirDrop a photo to another Apple phone person. I select my photo and tap the AirDrop icon along the bottom but that persons device doesn't appear under devices. What happened and what do I do?

I know I m replying a couple of months late but it might still help! There are a few reasons why the other person's phone may not have appeared: 1. The other person has turned off Airdrop on their device 2. Wifi and/or Bluetooth is turned off on their device 3. The other person's Airdrop is turned on but they have configured Airdrop to receive files from contacts only and they aren't added as a contact in your address book 4. The other person is connected to a VPN using a VPN app on their device Here's the way to resolve the listed issues: 1. Ask them to turn on Airdrop if they disabled it (some people do for Privacy or to avoid the slight impact on battery drain) 2. Ask them to ensure their Wifi AND Bluetooth are turned on. Airdrop requires both to be on 3. If they have set their Airdrop to receive from contacts only, then you need to have them added to you phonebook OR ask them to change their Airdrop setting to receive from everyone (at least temporarily until you are done sending them whatever you wanted to) once thy do that their device name will appear immediately in your Airdrop list 4. Finally, this is less likely among many users but if the other person is connected to a VPN at that time, ask them to turn it off temporarily as otherwise Airdrop won't work
