Completely agree with using right hand. The difference is negligible. People just make scenarios in their heads where that 10th of a second makes an actual difference

Good show. My personal view is that the AK was designed by people who were accustomed to using bolt action rifles, so the controls are placed in a similar manner

I started to load 2 mags with 2 rounds each. By doing this you can practice getting 2 round on the target and see how fast you can reload mags, charge gun and get 2 more rounds down range on the target. If you do this drill you will get faster and your muscle memory will get faster. I usually do this for about an hour each time I go out with my aks

Excellent point on using your thumb to grab the charging handle rather than hooking your index finger. I'll be adding that to my "weapons manipulation" techniques.
@gnomereviews
@gnomereviews 7 ай бұрын
I believe it was Chris at Small Arms Solutions where I learned the method I use to manipulate or reload an AK. I never take my firing hand off the pistol grip. Just roll my wrist to insert the mag then roll or flip it over and manipulate the safety then charge the rifle. Just what I prefer to each is their own.

What do you do if it takes a lot of pull to get the charging handle back? I know it has to do with the hammer and have tried to file it some where it's catching, but maybe my spring is too long. I have a Hungarian SA 85M 7.62x39?
@gnomereviews
@gnomereviews 7 ай бұрын
@@bobsardo6705 it shouldn’t be difficult to charge your charging handle. If you can’t pull your charging handle back easily you more than likely have a recoil spring issue. Without looking at it I don’t know to be sure. Definitely take that rifle to someone who knows AK’s.

The safety manipulation is super simple and very efficient as a left handed shooter. I want a 5.56 AK that takes AR mags because I could probably run that very quickly because in addition to the safety being easy to get to, the charging handle is easy to reach too. The only real drawback on AK’s is not doing a mag well grip.

I actually like manipulating the safety downward with my thumb, because it's more sure and positive for me. I'll have my off hand on the handguard and my right hand gripping the magazine with my thumb on the safety. Contact, safety down, and go. Also, if it's not already charged, I can disengage the safety and charge it in a very short motion. That's just my preference

Across the gamut of platforms it kinda depends on where the charging handle is located. "AR guys" insist on having the charging handle inboard and in that case having it non reciprocating is something they care about. I genuinely prefer having my charging handle outboard, and set them up that way even when given the option such as on a bren or tavor. Those both are non reciprocating
