Thank you for the video. I've had one of those rulers for years and never realized how to use it. So simple

Like some have said, great video. It's clear and concise to someone who is learning the beginning of scales.

Yes it was blurry at some points but the explanation was clear and to the point. I really don't see how some can't understand it even with the blurry parts. Yes a clear video is nice, but I can see exactly what you're doing and these things happen sometimes. Thanks for helping. Don't mind the people complaining keep posting videos.

Thanks for the knowledge. Wish you'd have explained the 20:1 ratio a little more.

10:1 - means 1 inch is equal to 10 feet (on drafting designs etc.) or 10 miles, if you're looking at a map with that scaling. Maps usually have a key that says 1 inch = X miles - so you can use this ruler to know how many miles you're looking at on the map. 20:1 - means 1 inch is equal to 20 feet (on drafting designs etc.) or 20 miles, 30:1 - means 1 inch is equal to 30 feet (on drafting designs etc.) or 30 miles, and so on. So, rather than using a regular ruler and getting a distance of 4 3/4 inches and having to multiple it by the miles/inch, you would just use the side of the ruler that matches to the scale of that map (or drawing), and if it was 50 miles/inch, then instead of seeing 4 3/4 inches you would see a marking for 237.5 miles on the 50 side of the ruler.

Your scale may be a Metric scale. Go an measure it's entire length, from first mark to last mark. If it is 30 cm long then it is a metric scale. If it's a foot long, or 12 inches, then it's an english scale.
@jameshenry24576 жыл бұрын
Not only out of focus, but ruler is reversed and upside down. Yeah I know...I can figure out what he's trying to show, But, It would have been just as easy to present it correctly. And yes, DO pay attention to the people complaining. That's how you improve your presentations.

Does an engineer's ruler only measure feet? For example, 18' 6" inches, how is it measured? Can those six inches be measured

Miles are cool but do not give complete explanation as I'm sure most of us will be using for feet. So If you added an explanation of a random measurement of like 12'4" or 12'5" anyway something with inches, so we could understand how 10 segments breaks into 12 inches on this ruler. Just adding that would make your presentation complete and the best easy to understand thats out there.Thanks. (Im doing a parking lot site plan and the city traffic planner wants it drawn to 20 scale, not knowing anything about that, I have learned alot on here with all these videos....and this guy explains it very well... just the inches explained.)

WHICH SIDE IS WHAT MEASURMENTS
@jcalbain7 жыл бұрын
They aren't measurements per se they are increments. Eg, if you're using 1 increment for a mile then 4 increments (notches on the ruler) would be 4 miles. In between the 2nd and third notch would be 2 and a half miles. Its the same for other sides but if spaces are further apart then your drawing would be larger.

First off please fix the focus on your camera as referencing to a blurry stick is hard to follow. Also use it in action. Using words like ratios and scales is already hard enough for us non engineering plebs. It'd be very beneficial if you slowly went through and demonstrated the concepts in action. "here's a building that is set to be 1" = 10' now let's see how it's drawn to a scale of 1" = 30', see how you can switch the sides of the ruler to help convert the numbers properly?"
