Just got my first chugger pump a couple of days ago. Gave it a test and was getting frustrated. Then I watched this great informative video. Thanks!

Wonderful to hear. Thanks for the comment. We made this video because we also could never find a how-to video for a pump of this smaller size... only like massive industrial versions. Cheers!

Mentioning the steam forming when pumping boiling wort was a total lightbulb moment for me. I was turning the pump on a few minutes before the end of the boil to sanitize my counterflow chiller and wondering why the pump would cut out. Thanks!

We're not excited to hear you were having the problem, but we are happy that we could be part of the solution. Thanks for the nice comment!

I do exactly the same as you, turn on the pump a few minutes to sanitize my counterflow chiller but so far have never experienced any problems

What is the best way to sterilize a pump? To be able to pump post boil I need to sterilize so I don’t contaminate the wort.

From our Brewmaster Brad: "Kill the boil, let sit for one minute, and then pump the hot wort. It will still more than hot enough to nearly instantly sanitize. Let the pump flow for a minute back into the kettle just to be absolutely sure. This makes sure that everything in the pump loop (hoses, pump, chiller, etc) is all heat sanitized. After a minute of recirculating back into the kettle, you can proceed with your process of moving wort to chiller and into fermenter."

Thanks for the information. What type of oil do they need and how often should one add oil?
@NorthernBrewerTV
@NorthernBrewerTV 2 жыл бұрын
From March Pump's website; hope this helps! LUBRICATION: The motor should be oiled annually at the start of the heating season with 4 or 5 drops of SAE 20 weight non-detergent oil in each bearing. If the pump is used year round it should be oiled every six months. Do not over oil.

Here's a stupid question for ya. When using a pump to transfer from mastun to kettle.... Can I drain the mashtun until it is completely empty? Or do I have to kill the pump before the line starts to run dry? If the line runs dry at the very end for a few seconds can this damage the pump?

Can you use it to transfer the wort into the boiling pot from the mashtun ? And can it be filled from the bottom of the boiling put ?

Can we use the red pump to transfer the beer from the fermenter to the re-sugaring tank? Is there a risk of sucking up residues from the fermenter or creating oxygen? thank you

The prime is not self-priming and would oxidize beer if used in this fashion.

can you add a filter or filters somewhere in the pump's line? I'm guessing you can but in which part of the pump's line would be best in the incoming line or in the out going line

If you're talking about a sediment filter of some sort, it should go on the output line. Hope this helps?

This has nothing to do with beer, but we are looking for a pump such as what you feature here to use with bottling an herbal tea. We have to bottle at no less than 180 degrees, so is there are maximum temperature we have to abide by? Also, is this an FDA approved device? We had another off-brand years ago that left some shiny (looked like leaking gas or oil) on the top of the batch which we had to throw out. I am ignorant to magnetic motors, so would there be something that could possibly leak into my tea? Great video, by the way, and we have four edelmetall pots we got from you which we absolutely love.

I seriously can't believe there aren't any similar spec'd / priced pumps that self prime. I've been looking everywhere and cant' find any. The Chugger can be a finicky pain in the ass.

This is very helpful! What would you recommend to put on the end of the line that you place inside of the carboy? The suction of my line attaches itself to the side of the carboy when I am transferring
@shaynemay2701

You can cut a couple of notches in the end of your hose to prevent that. Rounded notches, giving the hose a scalloped end, are best.

So if you shouldn't transfer boiling wort -mash how do you sparge with it
@NorthernBrewerTV
@NorthernBrewerTV 3 жыл бұрын
Sparge water typically isn't boiling. It's more like 170-180F-ish. If I'm understanding your question correctly.

I thought people pumped boiling wort to sanitize it?
@KH-id2hr
@KH-id2hr 3 жыл бұрын
You will get the same effect by letting the boil rest for 60 seconds after cutting heat, but without the steam/bubble generation that could stop flow or damage your pump. Let it rest for 60 seconds after flame-out, then begin circulating.
