One trick I learned was to tape a matchstick to the other end of the film. That way, when the film is finished, you will feel resistance in the wind on lever.

@@edpavez I know people find it too much like hard work but as well as having a 56x, I also have an Instamatic 500. With a variable focus, 38mm f/2.8 lens it's a completely different beast. Want to shoot square with full manual control? f/2.8 - f/22 and 1/30 to 1/500 + bulb. Can also be had at silly low prices. That's what made me persevere a bit more with loading. Another tip is that a 24xp roll of film will fit perfectly in the take up chamber. 36 won't roll down small enough, but 24 is fine so if you don't roll your own film, you can take any roll of 24xp film and unroll it in the dark bag.

@@Harlequin565hey!! I purchased an instamatic 500, and I already had an FAKMATIC from a few years ago. Unfortunately, I am having trouble getting the FAKMATIC to work with the camera. The winding gear isn't tall enough to engage with the spool, and so it won't wind. Do you use the FAKMATIC, and if so, how did you deal with this issue?
@Harlequin565
@Harlequin565 11 ай бұрын
@@purple-flowers Hi there. I use the Cameradactyl Fakmatic and have had no issues as long as you make sure the spool is the right way round (you can fit it upside down). I have to be honest though, I use a cracked original 126 can most of the time as I find it easier to handle in the dark bag.

Indeed, this is the camera I've inherited from my grandma, who sadly passed away few months ago, so this video has been like finding a treasure for me. Now I know how to use it and take pictures around the world with the memory of my grandma with me. I'm deeply grateful for your help! ✨

me too , today I found this camera at my grandpa house, i was searching a tv control which also gift me (he's blind) and found 2 cameras today: this one and an rodestock, my god those cameras are beautiful. I don't know if he could gift me (for me it's too much with the TV) but I need to take pictures (always I've been wishing for a polaroid, instamax it's kinda nearly, 'cause the film and vintage style), not only photos for me, for him.

I was recently viewing some Kodachrome slides taken on a 126 instamatic back in the 80’s. The quality of the lenses is surprisingly good 👍🏼. Well worth a play
@iNerdier
@iNerdier 4 жыл бұрын
The overlap is due to the sprocket holes, the original film had one per frame, can’t remember exactly how many but it’s something like one every five regular ones. I’m impressed by the effort you’re willing to put in with something this basic, I know I wouldn’t.

It's a fun camera. I used to buy some with left over film. I shot until all exposed. Then developed it and it was interesting to have someone's pictures decades ago with my freshly shots on the same roll. Anyway there was base fog due to the age of the film.

My first camera was an Instamatic 300 - and I still have it 57 years later! I think you might have convinced me to have a go at using it again. I have scanned some of the slides I shot, and am impressed with the quality - maybe it has a better lens than yours?

I'm honestly surprised Lomography hasn't picked up this format, there seems to be a huge market for it. Sure with a lot of the 126 cameras mercury batteries depleted, and a majority of the Instamatics that used the format breaking down, the market is shrinking, but at the same time, they could market their own 126 cartridges and cameras like they do their 110 "baby Diana" cameras and cartridges.
@camerhack

Thank you for this great video. It's way better than mine in showing how the cartridge works. I really like the low-fi look and the overlapped scenery, but there still are some very capable instamatic cameras out there 😉

Ohh, cuantos recuerdos.

My first camera was a Kodak 126 I bought it at K-Mart for something like $25-$30, it used the 126 film, the body was mostly metal and it used flash cubes. In today's dollars that's about $190.00 ($25 adjusted). It came with a black case. My next Camera was an Argus-Cosina with a 50mm lens, I think an STL 1000, it cost much more, at least $500 in today's money, probably more like $550-600.

I have 3 rolls of 126 film sitting in my freezer. They've been there for over a decade. I first started taking pics back in the 80's with 110 and 126 film but moved on to 35mm and then ultimately digital. I throw nothing away and still have the cameras.

@edpavez
@edpavez 3 жыл бұрын
But where will you develop 126 film? You would have to buy special stuff to develop it yourself. And the 126 film has been expired for decades and for sure in horrible storage conditions. Even if you ever get to find some, the results would be terrible. Get the adaptor and use 35mm. It’s simpler, cheaper and you can get predictable results.
