I was chased by a gang who were going to knife me, luckily made it to a shop, only 1 person could get in at a time and I fended them off with an umbrella. I made one guy cry from the sheer force of the umbrella in the middle of his chest and then they all left when they realised they couldn't touch me. Umbrellas are underrated!

The Kingsman Defense

I don't understand why he's suggesting jabbing at the face - it's a small target and it's relatively easy for the attacker to weave out of the way. If you are carrying an umbrella, stick, walking pole or similar, surely the most effective use is to stab the point at the chest or midriff? This is a much larger and less mobile target so easier for the unpractised defender to hit. And a hard stab could be disabling, or extremely painful at the least. A stab is far more difficult to avoid than a swipe to the head with the side of the umbrella, and you can get your whole bodyweight behind it. The swipe idea doesn't seem to have much going for it, even if you have a robust self-defence umbrella. I was taught this by a friend who'd been in the special forces, so I suspect he knew what he was talking about.

The point of umbrella is not sharp so poke into face or neck would be more effective. With a self-defense umbrella you can club someone.

@@sophocles1198 Clubbing is much easier to fend of or avoid. A short stab to the gut is far more effective - properly done it has a far higher chance of getting through. A reasonably fit man could apply 150 lbs to the tip. Sharp or not, that's going to cause a lot of damage when concentrated on a small area. If I was using a self-defence umbrella that way, my main concern would be justifying the use of such force in a court, because the result could very well be fatal. I would only use it as a desperate last resort.

It reminds me of the treatment i got in college days. My MBA batchmate taught me a painful lesson for teasing her. I always used to pull her hair. Once i pulled her hair hard as i always used to. She never used to get angry but that day got wild at me. Unfortunately for me that day she was having a long fat umbrella with a long n sharp tip at the end. She started chasing me wildly. I tried to escape but i slipped a bit and had to stop running to regain my balance. She caught me and gave me one hard whack on my bum with her umbrella. The sharp edge of the umbrella pierced my bum royally. I couldnt sit for two days. Kept rubbing my bum till i reached home. After that day i don't think i teased girls and women.
