Yay! Another fan! I love her! Started listening to her back in the early 80's. I got to see her perform in NYC at The Town Hall and it was one of my favorite concerts of all time! Even Alexa, offers a pretty good selection of her music. But I still like to listen to the music in order like it is on the albums. My husband collects albums. Oh my gosh! SO awesome! I lived in NYC for 10 years. I'm 52 and was living in Massachusetts when the owner of this tiny record store called the Flip Side turned me on to her. I will be forever grateful. You are so lucky to have seen her multiple times. I would see her again in a heart beat! Thanks for thinking about us with the storm. We get some much icy so, even those of us who know how to drive in snow don't venture out. It was pretty crazy. I have never seen it 6 degrees here. We are safe and back to normal. Hi! Thanks so much! The Apple CarPlay navigation from apps like Google maps was not compatible to show on the HUD until the new Gen12 model system that have Lexus Interface multimedia. I'm sorry it wasn't available on the 2022 ES yet. Thanks so much for checking in.

Thanks so much, Roie! I'm sorry you are having a volume issue with your calls. Try this: Get a call going through the system, then turn the volume all the way up on the side of your phone. Then you can control it even more on the car. If that doesn't get it, go to Menu > Settings > Phone and look for Transmit Volume settings. That can make a big difference for the sound quality that callers hear on the other side. I hope this helps!

Thanks for the great video! I have a 2021 RX 350. I find the screen displays for Google Maps and Waze are very light and hard to read. My overall display is set to the middle for contrast and brightness. Is there something else I should do to make them more readable.

Hi Penny, Thanks for tuning in. There are a couple of things you can try: - Make sure the main vehicle display is not set to always be in Day Mode. - Try adjusting the Brightness and Contrast of the main Display down a couple of clicks. I did this with another Guest a couple of days ago and it made a major difference in the map apps from Apple CarPlay. - In your iPhone: open each map app and see what adjustments you have available for that particular app's display. Note that with Google Maps, you usually need to launch a destination before you can open up Settings in the lower menu. I hope this does the trick for you. Thanks again for being here.

Thanks so much, Gayle. If you are seeing the map on the screen through the Apple CarPlay system, but you aren't hearing the sound from the app, you can check a couple of things: 1. Make sure the sound is not muted from on the screen. 2. Then turn the phone volume on the side of your phone all the way up. (Remember to do this for any app that produces sound. Every app's volume settings are separate now.) 3. Check the Sound settings for the map app you are using. They each have their own Sound settings and are customizable. Hope this helps. @@patriciasoderstrom4646 hi Patricia, all apps audio settings are controlled in that specific app. Locate the settings and then make the volume adjustments you want. Then when the app is actively routing for you, also, turn the volume up on the side of the phone for additional adjustments if compatible. Apple has received a lot of negative feedback about not muting the audio during navigation. I have heard they are making improvements to this feature and we will all see changes in an update in the future. I'm not sure if it will be with an iOS update or an Apple CarPlay update, but I'm sure we will get it eventually. Thanks so much for checking in.

Hi Dan, Thanks so much! Yes, the iPhone needs to be in the car and plugged in to the proper USB port with a data certified cord for Apple Car Play to mirror the information to the car. The apps are not on the screen without the mirroring from the phone. Hope this helps.

We just went from a 2006 Lexus RX 330 to a fully loaded 2022 RX 350 and are really struggling to learn all of the technology. I just found out in the manual that there seem to be very many voice commands the vehicle understands just by pushing the "talk" button on the left side controls of the steering wheel. Are you familiar with that technology? I need to check all of your tutorials. Plus, my wife is not a technical person and she kind of freaked when I started the car using my Lexus app. I also used the key fob to start it from outside of the car but it shut off as soon as I opened the door. A lot to learn here. It's a little overwhelming for people turning 70 soon. I never thought I would say that because I've been keeping up with technology but this car goes to a whole other level.

Very nice video, learned a lot from it. I changed my iPhone, the new phone Bluetooth works well with Lexus car, but when connected it through USB, the CarPlay icon is not show up in the dashboard. I checked my iPhone, the CarPlay is in the allowed apps, but in the settings->general there is no CarPlay show up. Anything I did wrong? The old phone can connect through CarPlay. The only difference is I installed the Lexus Enform app in the old iPhone but it is not available in the App Store anymore so I am not able to install in the new iPhone, any suggestions would be much appreciate. Hi! I'm so glad you like the video. Let's see if we can figure out what needs to be changed on your new iPhone. 1. To use Enform, now you only need the Lexus app. The old app is no longer supported. (It won't impact Apple Car Play though so not to worry.) 2. Try this on your iPhone for Apple CarPlay: - Make sure Siri is turned on and allowed on the lock screen - Also check this setting: Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions, tap Allowed Apps and make sure that CarPlay is enabled. - Make sure to use the correct cord for your new iPhone. Hope this gets it working for you.

Hi Dan, Thanks for tuning in with me. I also have a 2020 NX and use Apple CarPlay while listening to the radio most of the time. I like to use the arrow buttons on the steering wheel to move through the radio preset I have saved and that doesn't change the Apple CarPlay image I have on screen. You can also use both versions of the voice command system. Press & Release the Talk button on the steering wheel to give a car command like, "tune to channel 33" and Press & hold to give an ACP command like, "get directions to..." I hope this helps. No worries. We're you able to get your Apple CarPlay connected? The upside to staying plugged in, is that your phone will keep a nice charge and you don't have to subscribe to a wifi hotspot to run CarPlay. :)

Thanks so much, Khristian! There are two options when you want to get rid of an existing radio preset. 1. Select a new station, get it playing and over ride the preset that you don't want any more. 2. Do "Delete Personal Data" in Setup and clear all the customizations for radio, NAV, BT phone pairing, etc. That version is great if you're buying a pre-owned car and want to clear everything out. Otherwise just make the over ride changes one at a time. We've been asking for a delete option and the ability to drag and drop to move them around, but Lexus hasn't added those capabilities yet. Maybe some day (fingers crossed) :) Thanks again for watching!

No worries. You do have some functionality with Bluetooth, but it doesn't integrate with the screen like Apple CarPlay does. You would also want to select Bluetooth Audio as your sound Source so you can hear the audio content from music apps and navigation apps. The NAV apps do usually have settings allowing the directions to "Play as a Bluetooth phone call," but sometimes there can be lag and you might miss the first couple of words. Hope this helps explain it better. :)

Apple CarPlay allows partial view of multiple apps from the CarPlay Dashboard: "CarPlay Dashboard displays several items you likely want to view or control, such as driving directions, audio playback, and suggestions from Siri." (Source: support.apple.com/guide/iphone/use-your-vehicles-built-in-controls-iph5f6b2beb5/ios ) The layout isn't customizable like the Home screen is that shows app icons, but it is the closest thing you'll get to a split screen inside the Apple CarPlay environment. Track pad and no touchscreen seems to always be an issue w new Lexus cars now. Being parked seems easy to use but while driving seems like a distraction and is only thing holding me back from buying. But I like the voice commands. Do you find you don’t need trackpad when driving and voice can do most stuff?

Thanks for watching, Mig! There is so much that can be done by voice command, that's for sure. However, the touchscreen seems to be making a com back. 2021 RX and IS have touch screen and a touch pad. Seems to be the wave of the future :)

@@mig3872 That would be awesome. It's all about redesign and refresh timelines in the factory. Sometimes they can retool the line to accommodate a change like that and other times they have to wait longer. I'm sure there are tons of reasons that go into why and when changes happen that are hardware and software related. They do seem to be willing to make technology related changes sooner now. Probably because they know phone technology changes so rapidly and we are all expecting the car to now keep up with the pace of the phone. Fingers crossed that we will get it on all of the models at some point!

Hi! Thanks so much for tuning in. Waze through Apple CarPlay will usually mute your radio to give a NAV direction or it will simply talk over the radio audio. If you don't like how they work together, you can also try selecting music from a compatible audio app through the Apple CarPlay interface and see if they work better together for you. All the best!

Hi harrie k! No worries. There are two different types of voice command and they are triggered by doing the following: - Apple CarPlay: Push and hold the Talk button on the steering wheel. (This is like pushing and holding the button on the iPhone to get Siri) - Lexus car voice commands (climate, native nav, Bluetooth calls, etc.): Push and release the Talk button on the steering wheel. So sorry for the delay. I'm in Texas in an area hit hard by a major winter storm and we had to close the dealership for a few days. Just getting back and catching up. Great question. The car temperature needs to be controlled with the native car voice command system. Same thing for volume for the radio. If you are using Apple CarClay for music, I believe you have to physical turn the volume up or down on the phone and then the car. I'll play with that though and let you know if I learn anything new. To use the native voice command system, just push and release the Talk button on the steering wheel. Instead of Push and Hold for Siri. Hope this helps!

I cannot get audio directions in Google Maps on my 2023 ES350. It works great if I manually enter the desired address into Google Maps, then connect my phone. I see the “Start” pop up on the screen, click on it and voice directions work perfectly. However, if I connect my phone first and then use a voice command to ask for directions using Google Maps, the system confirms that it is getting directions and then puts the map on the screen, but I never see the “start” button to initiate voice directions. Any thoughts on how to fix this issue?

Hi Jim, Thanks for you note. I would check the audio settings in the maps app on your phone. You may need to make sure the system isn't muted when the phone is connected to the car. You can also look on the the Google map screen on the car's display and see if there are any controls to unmute from there. Each navigation app has it's own settings so it can be tricky. They car will operate based on how the settings in the phone are established. I hope this helps. Thanks for being here.

Hi Remi, I'm sorry, Lexus has told us that there is not a retrofit for Android Auto. Apparently there is different hardware and software between the 2020 and the 2021 that make it possible to have Android Auto.

Hi Charisma, Thanks for checking in. The new Lexus infotainment system that is compatible for wireless Apple CarPlay requires different hardware, software and a new electronics setup. @@andrewalpern1107 Hey Andrew, Looking through all of the settings available through the car and the list of Lexus Personalized Settings on LexusDrivers.com, I don't see any option to show or hide the volume adjustment popup or dropdown. I know on vehicles with HUD you can turn off the audio content in the HUD. I was hoping to see something like that for the audio customizations for you. It's possible that there is a setting a Technician would be able to access with the computer. They have access to a lot of additional customizations than what is shown in the owner's manual or on the car screen. Sorry I wasn't able to find it for you.

Hi Eva! No worries. This is very common, especially after an iOS update or app updates. The volume for most apps is completely separate from the phone or Siri volume. Once you get the directions started and you hear it start, turn the phone volume all the way up on the side of the phone. Then you can sometimes make additional volume changes with the radio volume controls. Also, in the settings of each navigation app, there are volume or sound level settings you can adjust. On the new 2021 RX350 Lexus, why can’t we have “Wireless” CarPlay/Siri (2nd year for Lexus/Toyota) as many other vehicles with lesser value have?

Hi Ronny, That's a great question. I've heard rumors that it is coming, but not sure when or on what models. I do know though, that it requires a WiFi connection and that the other manufactures who offer it only have a brief trial period for the service, then you have to pay for the WiFi hotspot data usage. So there are pros and cons to both versions. I like that the wired version uses my cellular data from my phone plan and that the phone is always charging. But I know a lot of people don't want to have to plug it in. Stay tuned and we will all see what is coming down the line from Lexus later this fall. Thanks so much for tuning in.

Hi @Saidong, If you see Projection Settings in the Menu, then you are all set with Apple CarPlay on the car. If it is not connecting properly, here are some things to try: 1. Try an authentic Apple cord or a data certified cord. It is very common to have a cord that will charge, but will not transmit the data for CarPlay. 2. In your iPhone Settings: Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions > Allowed Apps > CarPlay > Toggle to On. I hope this helps :)

Great question! Yes, here's how: get your audio playing, then open Apple CarPlay. I frequently have a map app open through ACP and am listening to an FM station on the radio. Hope this helps!

Hi @R_Maureen The 2018 NX did not come with Apple CarPlay from the factory. In the US and some other countries, Lexus released a retrofit that is available through your Lexus dealership. The update will be performed by a Technician or a Technology Specialist and can take about 1 1/2 - 2 hours, depending on if your NX has NAV or not. There is also a charge for the update, so make sure to check with your dealership to get accurate information when you make your appointment. The Bluetooth phone issue can usually be resolved by unpairing and repairing your phone. I'll send those instructions as a reply to your other comment so you have them with the Bluetooth video. Hi! Thanks for checking in. In the US there is a retrofit update for Apple CarPlay through your Lexus dealership, but there is not an Android Auto retrofit available in the US. Android Auto retrofits are available in some other countries though. Hi. The 2020 NX can do climate control voice commands like you mention. Make sure to push and release the voice command button on the steering wheel. The video you are commenting on is about Apple CarPlay and the voice command button will be pushed and held down for Siri. Hi Mary, Congratulations on your new RX 350L! Thanks so much for watching. Apps with audio all seem to have their own audio levels now and many are resetting to very low after the most recent updates. (Even Siri has it's own volume.) The thing to do is get that item playing and then adjust the volume on the side of your iPhone all the way to the highest setting. Then control it on the car. This will give you much better sound quality as well. Hopefully this will resolve it for you. Thanks again for tuning in.

Hi Susan, If you are using the radio try launching things in this order: - Press the radio button (button under the CD player on most Lexus). Make sure you are plugging in with one of the USB-A ports under the arm rest. The ports at the front will only charge. Make sure you have a data certified or genuine Apple cord. Make sure your permissions in your iPhone are set correctly for Apple CarPlay. Make sure Projection Settings are turned on in the car for Apple CarPlay. :)

Hi Ramon. Sorry for the delay. If the cursor isn't moving at all on the screen. I would try the following: - Clean the Touch Pad. Use a soft screen cleaning or microfiber cloth dampened with a tiny amount of warm water. - Use the soft pad of your finger to move the cursor around on the display. If that still doesn't work try restoring settings for the Touch Pad to default. What year is your ES 350 F-Sport? The newer vehicles have more settings that you cab control your self. - A last option that you can do on your own would be to do "Delete Personal Data." You'll have to put your radio presets, phone, etc. all back into the system. This will clear it all out, but might reset the Touch Pad. If none of that works, I would ask your Lexus service department to do a hard reset on the vehicle. That will reboot the entire system. Hope this helps! Melissa

If the Touch Pad and Apple CarPlay aren't working well together, but it works without being plugged in for Apple CarPlay, then the issue could be the cord or the connection for the phone. I've got a different list of ideas for you: - Try a different cord - Reboot the phone - Do forget this device in the Apple CarPlay settings on the iPhone, then reconnect for a fresh connection to the car. Since the Touch Pad works without being connected to CarPlay it is more than likely not an issue with the Touch Pad itself. Hope this helps :)

Hi Larry, Sorry for the delay, I wanted to look this up in the common NAV apps to see how they are set up. Here's what I found: (All of this needs to be managed on your iPhone) 1. Apple Maps: Click on the "Search Maps" field > to the right of Recent click "More" > You can "Clear" an entire section of select one at a time and swipe to the left to Share or Delete 2. Google Maps: they don't seem to offer a method to delete a recent search 3. Hi Corey. I hear ya! Wireless is very appealing. Two things to consider for now, the phone stays nicely charged with the USB connection (wireless charging is not as fast as wired) and there is no wi-fi hotspot fee to keep up with for the wireless data usage. The manufactures that use wireless car play currently require wi-fi data to support the feature. I'm not sure if a Bluetooth connection is possible yet, but I have seen some article and after market devices. (They aren't compatible with all vehicles yet.) More to learn as the technology advances. I'm sure Lexus will have wireless at some point. Stay tuned and congrats on your NX!

Hi Tx03edge, Unfortunately there is not a Lexus retrofit software update for Android Auto. The computers we have on our Gen 10 systems (2018 & 2019 NXs) were only compatible for the Apple CarPlay retrofit Lexus released. Hi Amina, if a video is compatible to play, it will be from a DVD inserted into the CD player (not all systems are compatible). You also have to have the car in Park with the Emergency Brake on for video images to show on the screen if your system is compatible.

Hi Caroline! Thanks for watching. Each app has its own volume control on the phone and sometimes in app settings. Try this: launch a destination in Google maps. Before you start to drive, turn the volume on the iPhone all the way up. Then adjust it on the car. If that doesn't get it check the app settings in your phone to make sure the sound has not been muted. Sound can also be muted on the map screen in the vehicle, but the phone volume is the first place to check. Since the car can only mirror what the phone is sending, that is usually the culprit. Hi! Sorry to hear that you music app is going you some trouble. I would delete and reinstall that app, or perform an app update, if available. Then open the music app on your phone to make sure it is working correctly there. Also turn off the Repeat function in your iPhone for that song if it is still on. Then you should be able to operate the music through Apple CarPlay like normal. Keep in mind that not all music apps are compatible with the buttons on the steering wheel and audio controls on the central display, but it is good to try them and see how they operate your app. Thanks for checking in.

Hi Christian, unfortunately Lexus doesn't have a compatible retrofit for the LX. I have heard there are some aftermarket options out there, but I'm not permitted to recommend a non-Lexus part. I would reach out to a reputable aftermarket installer and ask what they offer for your vehicle. There are some different kits available online, but make sure you meet all of the required details before you purchase. Some are taking wired Apple CarPlay and making it wireless, but you have to already have the factory version on the vehicle first. You will need a kit that supplies Apple CarPlay for the system. In case you missed this form our other thread: On a 2020 NX, with Waze open on the main screen, use the audio arrows on the steering wheel to move through you radio presets list. This method of changing the radio station will not interfere with the Waze app on screen. You can also use the Radio tuner dial or voice command and Waze will stay on screen. Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions, tap Allowed Apps and make sure that CarPlay is enabled. Hi Joey. The 2018 NX did not come with factory installed Apple CarPlay. In the US Lexus released a compatible retrofit software update that can be installed by your Lexus dealership. There is a charge and it usually is 1 1/2-2 hours install time. You will need to make sure the update is compatible for vehicles in Canada. Check with your Lexus dealership about it. That is why you are not seeing "Projection Settings" on your main Menu or in Setup. Hope this helps. All the best!

Hi Mark, to use Apple CarPlay on all Lexus models (except the 2022 NX and 2022 LX) you must have a cord plugged in to the USB-A port that supports the data for Apple CarPlay. If you have app volume connectivity issues, make sure to force close and reopen the app. Both Pandora and Spotify have known audio issues, especially after texting or interacting with Siri. If you're driving and not able to force close the app, then you can try operating the Mode button on the steering wheel to toggle through the audio sources and see if it will refresh the connection for those apps. You can use the regular Lexus infotainment with your LC. Turn BLUETOOTH on ....on your iPhone. Go to the Menu/Bluetooth as your source on your LC. Go to the youtube website in your iPhone Browser and select your music. It will play over your speakers in the car and show up on your center console. If you have a youtube "playlist" set up, you can also select that. The video of the music on youtube also shows up on your iPhone screen.
