How To Use Apple Watch As Tesla Key

I've been using both the Stats app and Watch for Tesla app on my LTE version of Apple Watch for a few years. While both work great, I would still need to carry a physical key card or wear my NFC bracelet in case I park at a place where there's no cellular connection to my Tesla Model 3 and I can't use either app to open the car. Finally, both Stats app & Watch for Tesla came out with a killer feature that allows you to set up your Apple Watch as a Tesla key via bluetooth connection just like your iPhone. I show you how to set this up in both Apple Watch apps in this video.

Even with a hip holster for my phone, sometimes I also have to do a "hip dance" esp for the trunk, to avoid my body blocking it... front door usually ok. Glad yet another option! Yes, always carry physical keycard, never know when phone might run out of battery, break or get lost...! Love that RFID bracelet, nice! The phone-as-key works just w/ bluetooth, as long as it was opened earlier to be running in background, it will work as key w/o LTE data etc.... only the unlock/start remote commands need data (for both phone AND car.) Only time it usually fails for me, is after the app updates on the phone, but I haven't re-opened the updated app to restart it..

You can get either. If you want more detailed info on your Tesla then use Stats. If you just want to be able to control your Tesla on Apple Watch then Watch for Tesla. Hope this helps!

Do you ever have issues with the stats app saying, “there was a problem connecting” to Tesla for unlock etc… my Apple Watch is just Wi-Fi / Bluetooth not LTE enabled yet. It has lte feature though. So I stopped using stats for unlocking the car with Siri. The watch would make me unlock my phone, open stats app, then open the watch stats app again before the unlock would work. At that point I’d of rather just grabbed my card.

Joy I think your video is a little misleading. At least in regards to the Stats app acting as a Bluetooth key. After setting it up as a key, you can’t just open the Sats app on your watch and walk up to the car and your door unlocks! You have to open the app and press the new button that replaces the lock/unlock button before you can open the door.

Yes I did and that’s the only way it would work. Also, confirmed by the developer, Ramin: “Apple Watch does not support Bluetooth in the background and no app can change that (if it did, its battery would run out very quickly). So, Apple Watch cannot unlock the car based on proximity and no app can change that. “

On your Tesla if you haven’t already set it up you should be using “pin to drive”. So you need to input a 4 digit pin in order to do anything to the car including starting it!
