I once created a drink for the fall/holidays that is simply called Apple Pie. I use 1.5 oz. applejack, .5 oz. Licor 43, .75 oz. lemon juice, .5 oz. orgeat, and .25 oz. cinnamon syrup. Shake and open pour into a rocks glass with crushed ice. It really does taste like you're drinking a slice of apple pie!

From my research the distinguishing feature of "jack" is that it uses freeze distillation or fractional freezing. Basically, you make apple cider the. Freeze and since alcohol has a lower freezing temperature the ice you scoop off increases the alcohol percentage.

I recently developed my own applejack cocktail, which I call the “Everything Apple All At Once”: 1/2 oz. unfiltered apple-cider vinegar 3/4 oz. Woods Cider Mill boiled apple cider 2 oz. applejack 1 dash aromatic bitters 2 dashes apple bitters (I'm using Hella Apple Blossom bitters) Shake with ice and serve up with an apple slice. If it's too tart for your taste, add a little more boiled cider.

I was just discussing with our neighbors our plans for Trick or Treating this year. Every year we set at the ends of our driveways with the candy, and one neighbor will make some food, one always makes spooky Jell-O shots, and one cookies or some dessert, and I’m in charge of drinks. Previous years I’ve made Sangaree because that’s our street name, but last year it was chilly so I made a spiced applejack punch (you’re dead on, apricot brandy is a clutch flavor with the apple). So I’m glad to have some more applejack recipes to taste test and find the perfect one for All Hallows Eve. Cheers!

I just got my first bottle of apple jack (a 750 for about twenty dollars) a few weeks ago after intending to try it for years. I brought it home, took a sip straight from the bottle, looked at it, and said out loud, "Oh, you're delightful, but I have no idea what to do with you." It's been sitting on my shelf since then, so thank you for making this video. Also, I spoke to my bottle of brandy in front of my teenage daughter, and she still thinks I'm weird.

In the recipe for the second one, you said OJ and I automatically knew what you meant -- in the dive bar where I work, we do some drinks with Orange Crush (an orange soda for those who don't know), and some with OJ, so I always notate it as a drink with OJ or with Orange (if it's the orange crush lol). Love the videos from you Anders, they've been very helpful as I'm learning how to barback

Nice one, Anders. I'm going for the Apple Jack Rabbit. I lost most of my bitters and other stuff when the house got renovated recently. So all I need to do is buy a bottle of Apple brandy unblended. I don't think we get the US apple brandy in Australia so I'll have to buy the next best. You seem to have recovered from your health issues, which is good news for you and good news for us who depend on your tips, sips and recipes. All the best to you and Az !

Made the Applejack Rabbit and the Pam American. I used acid adjusted orange juice to bump up the OJ and really liked the drink - maple syrup as a sweetener with the other flavours was a winner for me, but I might make it a ‘thin’ 1/2 ounce next time. The Pan American was a little too sweet, I used the homemade grenadine and again might make it a ‘thinner’ 1/2oz if I make it again. With the absinthe it did have a candy flavour at the end, which was interesting because it was a flavour combo that I would have avoided if I saw it on a menu as I would have thought they would have worked. As both drinks had 1.5ozs of alcohol, I am thinking that is why they both seemed sweet. I am definitely making the AJ Rabbit again. Thanks for the intro to it. P.S. - I will try the other two drinks but need vermouth.
@flickerdart

If you can get a bottle of Tintura Imperiale (saffron based bitters from Naples) it works wonders in this drink instead of absinthe, but maybe start with 1 dash and see how you feel...

Jacking is the method of production. it's not just a brandy. Applejack is hard cider that's been frozen and had the ice removed several times as the method of concentrating the alcohol (jacking) rather than heat distillation. At least, that's the way I heard it

You are, as far as I can see, the only other person who mentions this. I was really disappointed to not hear a peep of this. Dude is supposed to be a pro. There IS a difference between applejack and apple brandy...sure, we can ignore it for the sake of availability and making cocktails, but we really should educate while we're at it.

Ok, massive props for mentioning how different products in this class can be. The distinction between blended and straight here is a huge, cause anything blended might as well just be (poorly) flavored vodka; weak AF character. Love the list too, cocktails tailored to using applejack. Most of the time when I introduce people to knew spirits like applejack I say just make your favorite cocktail with it and see what happens. This is much more informative, and every single one is delicious. Släinté my good man! Also, as an aside, I work for a distillery in SW Michigan. Would you be at all interested in some samples to try in cocktails for the show? I’m sure I can get them to you for free.
