Thanks, I appreciate the video. Now that I watch the two ways you use this, I get how it works and can come up with other ways to put them to work for me.

To make a stopper-knot for the end of the cord a loose figure-8 tightened up into a ball works very well. Good video.

I’m glad I know this on top of the standard method, which I think you may have actually done incorrectly. However the first method you showed is great for extra security.

@@everythingexceptnothing-bl4806 i prefer the figure 9 tensioners over these - easier for anyone to use.

I found the twist made the tensioner want to spin back and harder to work with on smaller cord because that spin was counter to the locking force and reduced the baseline locking force. I like your idea of locking it better in place so I tried twisting the loop itself before you pull it over the device and tight to the medium eyelet and it was solidly locked in place but instead of twisting the cord it crisscrosses the eyelet like a midshipman's knot does on the cordage without using a tensioner. It locks it somewhere in between your method and doing nothing at all. Thanks for the video.

Good advice, but just knowing prusik and truckers hitch will do the same (maybe bowline too depending on the wanted use)

Some advantages to using hardware tensioners are: 1. they can reduce some stress and wear on your cordage 2. they're typically easier to use with gloved or very cold hands 3. they're easier to do one-handed if you've sustained an injury to the other hand/arm That said, everyone should definitely learn and memorize the basic method you've mentioned to do it without hardware, since it's important to not be fully dependent on losable/breakable doodads

@@honortruth3600 those are fair points. I myself do use one at the end of my ridgeline to create a fixed loop instead of bowline as it is faster in a pinch, other than that I prefer prusik loops with toggles from branches for tensioning the tarp and the truckers hitch for tensioning the ridgeline.

hmmmmm 6y ago ? i like your Type1 application. i tie a "block & tackle" for TIGHT Lines but your video got me thinking about using these to reduce line-wear camp much ? ever set up a tent ? or a tarp ? (not a pretend tarp) with loose lines ? its an interesting doo-dad but for TENT LINES & TARPS this Eagle Scout says: Use a TAUNT LINE HITCH (2 on the inside & 1 on the outside, all in the same direction) for camp craft tensioners these are pretty much junque > no advantage > theres better knots NOW FOR KITE FLYERS that want to add a flag, windsock, dangle a key or a bell, pendants "line laundry" "sky trash" on their kite lines these FIGURE-8+ 's (is what i call them) ARE THE SCHNITZ ! THEY'RE WONDERFUL! they will accommodate 4mm paracord & 6mm kite string no problem easy to add an anchor point or top stabilizing line wherever you need it for kite string LARGER than 6mm use a standard Figure-8 descender GO FLY A KITE !
