i think the best way to find a unknown value in a 1m+ list is to to AB testing. Freeze half of the values and see if there is an effect, and then continue to freeze the half that has an effect. with 1m values it only take 20 trys to get to 1 option

not really , that could easily lead to a game crash. I have used cheat engine in the past with a 3d singleplayer game , and freezing even 2 wrong adresses could just freeze my game or crash it ( the freeze was pernament , couldnt just unfreeze the value as that did nothing )

For someone like myself who doesn’t want to create extensive cheat trainers (I think that’s the term) but just wants to tweak the occasional number in a game, I found your video tremendously helpful. I had watched it months ago and had Cheat Engine on my PC but never got around to trying it. Today I wanted to add some gold in “Army of Ruin” to save me a long grind. I rewatched your video and within 5 to 10 minutes I had 9,999,999 gold pieces in my game. It was so easy that I did the same thing with “20 Minutes Till Dawn”. And if the need arises again with some other game I feel confident I’ll know what to do. At the age of 70 I don’t learn new things that often. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!

Tip: When in Cheat Engine, always tick the box that says "Compare to previous scan", it helps in weeding out incorrect values by aligning or sampling the previous value you scanned. For example, if you are trying to find X value and you get multiple results of the X value. You hit compare to the previous scan and insert the new changed value of X which is XY and the program will then look for results that were X but then changed to XY. Anything that didn't change from X to XY is disregarded. This option helps you find the address you want swiftly. I use it all the time and it never fails.

a few things to keep in mind: you can use the "unchanged value" parameter, as long as the game is paused or working in the background... another way to mimic the "unchanged value" it's by doing "next scan" several times for the same value. I still did not manage to get the values for speed of walking in Left 3 Dead, or amount of damage per bullet. those may require a deeper understanding of the execution of the code.@@Swashed_

This actually makes it seem a lot more simple and manageable than I ever would have thought. I still have some questions/concerns, though, primarily: If you accidentally change a value that wasn't the one you were looking for and it breaks something, how do you fix it? And, if you do that trick to change a code to one that does nothing for invulnerability, and you decide you want to change it back, how do you do that?

If you change a value that you shouldn’t have, then either nothing will happen or the game the will crash. Changing the code to do nothing can be reverted in the code list, which can be accessed in the bottom left corner of cheat engine. Just right click on the code and select “replace with original code”

You can eventually get crazy with it, like change a static address to redirect to empty space in the games code, and then you can do complex programming like setting hotkeys and then activate your cheats based on the key you press, and then go back to continue normal operations. But nowadays, I’m trying to figure out how to just change the values and opcodes and dynamic and static addresses with cheat engines’s LUA scripts instead of actually programming my own injector. some games make it so much more difficult to find the address/value. So it’s good to know some tricks like you mentioned. It’s also annoying when you hack your health display but not your actual health. Cheers.

I could modify (freeze) population, but i could not do that for gold, for example. Even though i have selected ,,all" types of data, it still could not find it, not through other windows of cheat engine, for processes. Also, for ,,Age of Mythology", i could find for a population, but data is represented as some random, small number, not having anything to do with number that is exact and written in the game. Cheat Engine itself is not a virus. A few antivirus marks it as malware or PUP because it can attach itself to processes and modify memory. Cheat Engine work also for GTA 5 Online, I gave myself 1 billion and I spent them in 2 months and I had no ban. If you are low level avoid giving yourself too high a value (just for GTA ONLINE). NICE VIDEO and GREAT JOB.

Late comment, idk if anyone is reading but I am trying to use the money cheat on a game and when i replace the values it doesn't change the screen value but whenever I go into a menu to buy something the value I set is there, however if I try and purchase the item it says I don't have enough money. You didn’t find the actual address for money. It sounds like there’s multiple “display” values and you changed one of those. Sometimes there’s a bunch of values for something you’re trying to change so you need to find the right one. Also, it won’t work if the game you’re playing is online. Also, some values are “protected” and are hidden better and takes some messing around to find the real value

So you first scan for the value of how much exp you have, and this finds every memory address that contains that value. Then, you get more exp so the value changes and you scan for the new value, which should narrow down your search. Once you find the memory address, you can set the value to whatever you like. Also, yes, if you change the value, it should remain to whatever you set it to (assuming it’s a single player offline game)

this is really helpful for russian fishing 4. It is a super fun and realistic fishing game but i cant do many things cuz i have to get skill to unlock it and that takes hundreds of hours. This was an excellent explanation of how to use cheat engine! Very easy to follow and understand the reasoning between each click. One thing i wouldve liked to know is this. If you have an RPG for example, that can be played completely offline or online, are you able to manipulate the values, save, then go back online and have these values stay? I think that if can create a save file directly to your PC or console there is a way to manipulate values and make them stay even if you go back online since the save file data is not client side/other inaccessible PC.

Thanks! Yeah you can definitely do that if you’re bringing your offline profile online. I’ve done this with Terraria, Dying Light, Dead Island, and the Borderlands games. In the case of the games I mentioned, you don’t even need to go offline to use it. The server gets the info from your client so you can use it in real-time.

Hi, I’m scanning for a value, but it’s changing after 2 seconds or so.The value is loaded into memory when doing a specific action in game but it’s overwritten after a few seconds.Can I like freeze the value/addr when it’s found or tell CheatEngine to copy it and the following 20bytes?(it’s a string)

Try scanning for different value types. If you’re not sure, just select “all” for the value type. Instead of searching for increased or decreased, just scan for changed value

Hey, so sometimes there’s multiple addresses that are responsible for any given value. Sometimes you have one address that’s only responsible for *displaying* the value in the UI and has nothing to do with setting the value. You would need to find the address that is in charge of changing the value and it just reading from it

It’s likely you’re trying to change the value of an online game, where these values are not stored locally. The values are stores in the server which you’re connecting to, and the value you see on your screen is on your game client (local machine) and you can change what you see but not the actual value

Couple things that were NOT mentioned. When you modify 1 of 2 possible numbers, and it works on the title (display) of a number, like Money. Test buying something to see if that really changed the Cash, or just the display value of the cash. That way you're "sure". Secondly if you change a number and it's NOT correct, change it back, sometimes the number is a test value that breaks your game if you don't set it back to the original value, as it's a diff, an old number they use to compare, or just the display for the UI. It can be other things too, but you'll figure those out the more cheats you create. Finally there's cases where things like cash will require you to change as many as 5 numbers for it to work (that's the most I've seen to date), because they're all used to ensure cheating won't work and your save might get corrupted.

I narrowed it down to 4 addresses and everything I do those 4 stay. And I can change each one and it will change in game , however it’s not accurate. I type in 999999 and I get 255$ and so forth with other things I type in , just get random numbers nothing over 255$ though. If I type 100 I get what I type, 100$. Confused

The value type byte only has a range of 0-255. So you are constrained to editing the value within that 255 range. It’s annoying and very limiting I know. My workaround for this is to give yourself 255 of a really valuable item and sell that

I just downloaded cheat engine this am it took me forever just to figure out the basics , I’m on a Mac and there aren’t many tutorials , everything I could find is people operating on windows. I kept getting an error for some sort of typo or something when trying to copy and paste the coding for big endian. Idk if macos uses different coding than windows but I’m guessing if so then that explains why it won’t work. & when I enable and save them in the extras part of the settings menu they don’t seem to save , I go back and the boxes are unchecked. still haven’t been able to get that to work but when I search for all values it seems to work and I can find what I’m looking for.

Love the video very helpful. I am using a very similar program called pince, it is highly influenced by CE. But i was unable to change the value in game (coh1) for max pop. I found the value that changes when the pop cap goes up, but when i change it, it reverts back to the previous number. I tried to look at what was writing to that address, but i don't know assembler and don't know what to change to affect the max pop. Help please.

It’s possible that max pop is determined by other factors and you can’t directly change that value. I just looked into it and this seems to be the case. It looks like pop cap is hard coded into the game so I don’t think that’s a value you can play around with

i would guess searching your initial weight first then pick up more items to increase weight and search again

Its all about modifying the value and narrowing it down to few as much as possible

That window is a monitor for code. You open it and then do the things that wouldn't change the value, then it pops up

idk why but when I put in the first digits and it searches, it find some codes and then shortly after some turns red. When I get more cash and try to search the new value it doesn't find anything... please how do I fix this? (game is Asphalt 8 and 9 btw)

that's an online game, it has an anticheat, you cant use cheat engine on online games you dummy

I have a question after using cheat engine does the cheat still works if i close cheat engine without saving it? And some of the games when i died i lost the cheat everytime i died in the game like i'll have to cheat it again.

is this possible with a game called Predator Hunting Grounds? I've done pretty much the same, attach it to the game, first scanned the amount of credits i have (or vertium as its called) then since i cannot get more till i play a game or so i spend some for decorations, i put the new number in and next scan, it doesnt show me any valuse then, idk if im doing something wrong or your not able to do this with that game? would appreciate tutorial for that one if possible

i have no clue what i did but i have the same game as you and i did the same cheat as you but i think i did something where everything is bugged because when i go to my menu i cant move my mouse anywhere but up and down and my pick up alert is on the side of my screen and my map is also bugged, if you can help my by telling me if their is a way to see what you have done on cheat engine that would help, Thanks.

My pc tells me cheat Engine is a virus so can I download cheat engine and change the values and delete the Cheat Engine after changing the values will the game still work?

Your pc is detecting a false positive, where it thinks it’s the virus when it isn’t. It’s because of how cheat engine works (attaches itself to processes). Yes whatever you values you saved the game with should have them always even without cheat engine

been trying find video where it explains how to find/detect and spawn items. through Item ID's in games. as you can download pre-loaded stuff from others able do this. but not been able figure it out myself yet ^^ love learning

So I tried it with a game trying to add more money, however whenever I tried to change the value, it would revert back to its original value. So its not letting me change it. What should I do? Great video though, really helped.

It sounds like you're trying to do it on an online game. If it's not online, then it might be the wrong address. Sometimes there are addresses for displaying the value and sometimes there's an address for the actual value
