I had to turn off modern comments because the incredible amount of screen space it used up, plus it was great to have a line connecting the comment to the word(s) being commented on. Here's hoping these issues get fixed!

@@askani21 Thank you so much for watching! Normally emails aren't required to reply to comments in Word. However, to get an email notification that someone has replied and @mentioned you, everyone involved has to be on a school or organizational account. On list view I hit move and it popped out comments to a new windiw. Couldn't find anyway to re-doc it to the right of the page and got no help with from the internet. Thanks to the end of your video, turning off modern comments fixed it and put it back to the old way that just works the best. Why does it seem that Microsoft keeps ruining their products and killing off the old versions that are so much better than their new junk?

Great question! I have an older tutorial showing how to copy and paste text with tracking and comments: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fYKwhXaNiJqDaNk. I just tested it with modern comments and it still works. One key step is to ensure "Keep Source Formatting" is selected when pasting. Thank you for watching!

For some reason my word comments ceased to appear in balloons in the margin and appeared along with the other notations in tracked changes on the page, which made it SO much easier to do comments. However, this chagned on its own to comments in balloons/margins. Do you know how to revert his?

Thank you so much for watching! I'm afraid I need a bit of clarification about your issue. Are the comment no longer appearing on the left side of your screen?

@@erinwrightwriting They do. I may be reffering to an older version. Lacking a better way to explain, I noticed in later versions of Word, comments appear outside the "white space" of the document. Whereas, there are some versions where the comment appear within the white space. This is troublesome sometimes because you cant directly see what you are typing comments and sometimes have to shift view or zoom out to see them. Comments in the white space keeps eveythinng more narrow. Perhaps this is outside the scope of you video, but if you have any idea how to change this, help is appreciated.

@@Grayto Thank you for the clarification. You may want to experiment with the comment's contextual and list views to see if that improves the viewing experience. To do so, select Review > Show Comments menu arrow > Contextual or List. I hope that helps!

Thank you for watching! Modern comments are part of Microsoft 365 in both Mac and PC. There are many differences between Modern comments and the legacy system. However, the biggest differences, in my opinion, are that you have to press the Send button post them and they are no longer controlled by Word's styles.

Thanks..IMHO Word has gotten worse and more inconvient since the 2016 version..the removed comment numbering which renders this program USELESS with multiple contributors on a longer document. This moronic comments item w/having to hit 'send' for each post is a downgrade if anything. I wish they would fix this lousy program and start listening to their customers..we have all been complaining about this for YEARS. If there is ever a better, more widely used alternative, MS will have no one left!@@erinwrightwriting

Modern comments are enabled but when I reply, the comment is not nested so it is difficult to tell which comments are connected. Any idea how to fix this?
