How to use DJI Ronin-S with Canon 1DC! (or 1DX Mark II)
In this video I go over the best settings to use for big cameras like the 1DX or C200 on the DJI Ronin-S! I also go over some little hacks I have found from using this new awesome gimbal.
Let me know if you like this type of format. I have had a hard time trying to figure out what to do with this channel (since I am full time on Kinotika). If you guys like this laid back style of video, I can do more of these here!

Hi Dave! Hey I'm trying to connect the 1DC with the Ronin S but I can't find the way to make it work... I can use It manually but not start/stop filming from the handle of the Ronin. Apparently I should connect the self-timer in the camera but not even like that it works... Is it right, there's a lack of compatibility with the camera?

So they had an IR adapter thing that allowed for start-stop apparently, but I personally never got one and just hit record on the camera!

I'm waiting for my Ronin S. I have the Zhiyun Crane v2 and it malfunctioned on set this past Sunday. So, I'm really looking forward to getting my Ronin S. Plus, it's fully compatible with my GH5/GH5s and lens out of the box. This was a great video. You really went in depth with the settings, more so than most other videos have. Reviewed your great video again to brush up on settings. I removed the focus wheel since the 1dxii doesn’t really work well with it yet and also realized that the multi function port cover plates work great as a nato plate.

Yes!!! So glad it helps!! Ya, hopefully DJI will do integration with Canon eventually, but for now....nato rail it is! DJI told me they will have a cheese plate accessory soon.

Interesting settings. I use my Osmo in the "slow" mode when hand held. When I use the vehicle mount, (which didn't work well at all with that setting) I changed the headband to 0 and the speed to 40 and the smoothing to about 20. Sounds somewhat similar concept.

Great long form vid. I've been using the Crane 2 with a hefty Sony PXW Z90....and didn't like the tilt follow smoothness & vertical damping. It has been easier to obtain more professional cinematic results with my DJI OSMO Mobile......so maybe I'm in the market for the Ronin S.....

Thanks for the kind words!! Glad it helped. I take the handle and tripod off and pack it into my camera backpack or think tank rolling bag as is. That way I don’t have to re balance it everytime. It’s kind of a pain really, I’d recommend also maybe buying and making a custom pelican case for it. Maybe that’s the best way to pack it

DJI updated their compatibility list. The manual focus wheel will be compatible with Canon and Nikon through a future firmware update.

Hey I know this is an old video I use this with the 1dx mark ii and a cp.3 and I find the motors getting super hot and sometimes the camera just can’t stay balanced and looses control. Is it just too heavy? Summer sucks for gimbals?

CoveringFish make sure you have it balanced properly. It sounds like it’s using the motors to balance and killing it. If not then you may have a bad unit. Idk. Ask DJI support for more help

Hello, so I have finally got my ronin s and it seems that these cables out of the box are not suitable for my canon 1dc? Because I can not plug them into any of my cameras slot, did you experience the same thing? Then what about the follow focus and other things? :/ will we be forced to buy more cables and stuff for that? thanks in advance, Dave!

Ya unfortunately the 1DC isn’t compatible at all with the ronin-s. I took the follow focus thing off mine.

Can i still use the Ronin S for a Canon Rebel SL1? I know that features like Start/Stop Button, Capture Picture, and the focus wont be available for it, but is it ok to just use it for stabilization in the mean while until they come up with an update(which i doubt) ?

Hey. Great video! I’ve just got the robin s for my 1Dx Mii. I can balance the first bit so the camera stays put when put up or down. But when I balance the roll it doesn’t seem to want to stay in the positions I put them in. Always recentres itself. Any advice?

Hi Dave, how do we setup the canon 1dx mark 2 to work with the focus knob and shoot controls? I can't seem to find a setting to set the camera to manual shutter control. Any ideas? It says it's compatible..

With the most recent Ronin-S FW and the 1DXM2 it works for video recording. Use DJI's "MCC-B" cable which came with the Ronin S kit. It plugs into the bottom half of the camera's USB port. I'm not sure that the "Create" tab tools all work but start/stop video recording the Ronin S' rec button works and the focus wheel even works with the 16-35 f/4 IS lens on the camera.

Hey Dave, trying to balance my 1dxmkii with a 16-35 f4 Canon which I know is kinda weighty. I can balance it all pretty good except the roll axis. It’s sitting good but won’t stay where I put it. Kinda how yours did at the start of the vid where you mentioned it could be better. When I try and auto tune it fails. Only got the Ronin S this arvo though but seems weird. Do you think it should still be auto tuning?

That thing looks pretty sweet. If I were able to justify a gimbal I think it'd be that Ronin-S. Does it have any kind of motion tracking features either through the app or standalone? Also this low key format was good and if it lets you make more content you should do some more of these alongside the text overlay mastershow that is Kinotika.

Dave Altizer I will be so grateful Actually I have this setup and I need a gimbal for my work . Ronin 2 will work with no issue at all , but it is tooooooooooo expensive for me . a friend of mine tried the tilta GTX 2 and it works great but there's no comparison when you compare the dji support and tilta support dji has great support for each product they make, on The other side tilta said about the GTX 2 that it can hold that setup but on their channel you can't see a tutorial about that . I'm waiting Dave👍

It depends on what camera you have. Canon, Sony, Panasonic all have the ability to start stop with the little record button on the handle! What camera do you use?

Nah. It’s really not a deal breaker. Especially cause with the 80d you have dual pixel AF! I don’t use the focus wheel at all

Good info but it is not like it is a break-thru product. This type of gimbal has been around a while. It is Crane 2 + . Which is good, now crane 2 has some competition and we will get some good features for a good price.. The Ronin S is proof of that.
