Nice video I’ve used it couple times and it works great good to have for summer months when you got a big area to do and can’t get hold of another plasterer to help but for smaller walls just easier to do normal sets with out it as does make it a longer time per set

Cream of tartar gives you extra half hour or so one sachet per bag of skim. I use it in summer now and again.

I’ve never tried it. I’ve been told about it a few times. I’ll have to try it one day to be able to give it a comparison 👍

Just out of curiosity mate do you not cross trowel aswell. As following the same direction on all passes surely leaves lines, not saying I can see any but just wondering good work mate.
@AnthonyParryPlastering4 жыл бұрын
Hey Dale, I’ve never had a problem with lines. I have cross troweled but I tend to do it on big flat areas. but it doesn’t really make a difference to my finish. But I wouldn’t discourage from doing it. Everyone has there own way of doing things.

Do you rate blue grit over pva?
@AnthonyParryPlastering4 жыл бұрын
Hi Toby yeah I do, especially when you work on your own. Pva works great but i feel I’m doing more chasing with pva. Where with blue grit I paint it on all the walls and that’s it. It’s more controlled. One thing I’d say thou is I tend to put skim on a bit thicker with blue grit so you use a bit more tiny bit more stuff. But I swear but it.

@@AnthonyParryPlastering nice1 thanks for the reply, does it actually take 24hrs to dry before you can apply the skim then?
@AnthonyParryPlastering4 жыл бұрын
@@tobyharris2889 I find about 12 hours is fine. But it’s more down to the conditions. If it’s still wet then don’t go over it. If you have a warm house it goes off quicker. I’ve heard of people going over it after 6 hours but I’ve never tried that. I normally leave it overnight and it’s normally dry.

Sodium citrate does exactly the same thing but again is loads cheaper you can get a kilo for around a fiver
@dcp65133 жыл бұрын
Thanks for that tip Ed, how much of it do you recommend I use per bag of plaster? And are you a plasterer?
@edwallace37043 жыл бұрын
@@dcp6513 I use an empty half time sachet to gauge it originally , then bought some of those measuring spoons that they use for cooking. 1 full sachet in a 2 bag mix normally speeds up a set by half an hour . The more you put in the quicker it sets , you can also use it in bonding coat too which is great . Sodium citrate slows the set down ,.does exactly the same thing as extra time costs a fraction of the price. Been plastering 17 years .
