Surprisingly very few, because as you said the EZD samples sounds so amazing that people think the e drum kit module produce the sounds, besides for small venues you got the sound pressure level so much controlled, for me is easy to mix with the rest of the band, acoustic drums are awesome but they need a complex mic technique, if you set the E-drum module in the right way the results are so natural when you play

I'm astounded by the amount of drummers with electronic kits that haven't utilized their MIDI output into a DAW with a VST drum plug-in. This is exactly why I'm buying an electronic kit. I wanna record drums at home and not mess around with noise complaints while having access to top tier samples.
@TTPDrums

This is a proper lightbulb moment for me. I’ve put off buying an e-kit due to the awful samples, but with this software and the superior drummer software, I think I’m finally going to take the plunge. I already have a little home studio with Logic Pro x, so I’m all set! Any advice on the most cost effective kit with decent feeling pads would be appreciated! 😁👍🏻

@@TTPDrums Look at EFNOTE. They trigger amazingly well with VSTs and have the best hi hats available (excluding the costly Roland digital hats). Another great option is to go without a module and get an eDrumIn. The triggering control with the eDrumIn is top notch and you can cobble together a bunch of used stuff for short money to get started if budget is a concern.

Another awesome video by Nick. However, I like to point out that there are differences between the standalone version and the plugin version in the setup instructions. I am using this with Ableton Live 11, but this should apply to all or most DAWs. When using the plugin version (which I think is really a call to the standalone version passing a parameter that places it into a "plugin mode") there is NO OPTION in the SETUP tab to select AUDIO/MIDI setup. Instead it only shows EDRUM/MIDI IN. Selecting this brings you to the PRESET selection screen. From there you do the same as in the video to select which kit you have and the section optimizing the HiHat instrument. At this point there is no option to select a buffer size in EZDRUMMER 3. Instead you can bring up a screen that shows buffer sizes, but this is from the ASIO driver, not EZDRM 3 and it won't allow you to change that buffer size because it's in use by the program. This may be an Ableton thing, but I have no way to verify that. So this may only apply to Ableton, your mileage may vary. BUT, there is no need to change any buffer size as it all seems to work just fine with absolutely no latency or delay of any kind (at least on my PC which is a mid level unit, not a gaming machine and I am using a Roland TD27 kit). Everything else follows the video exactly. One more problem I ran into. I am using the internal interface of the TD27 module, so the resulting audio goes back to the TD27 and I use the headphone output from there to monitor the sound. When I strike a drum or any trigger on the kit, I hear not only the EZDRMR 3 sound, but the sound coming from the TD27 kit. So there are two sounds coming into the headphones. There is no way to use the triggers on the TD27 without having a drum kit selected. This really had me stopped for a while. I fixed this by noticing that there is a special button on the TD27 called "kit volume". By selecting that on the TD27, was able to set the volume to "-INF" which is essentially 0 AUDIO output, the trigger output still comes out to the PC. Problem fixed. You can pick any drum kit in the TD27 and do this as you are not going to use the synthesized drums in the KIT anyway. So I hope this extra bit of info helps anyone having trouble integrating their electronic drums in a DAW using the PLUGIN version. And thanks, Nick, for a great video. Joel

Great, easy to understand presentation, Nick. I've been using this to record our album in Logic pro. It's also great to as well as record using MIDI from my Roland kit to trigger the kits in EZ Drummer, to also take stereo lines out from the brain and record the audio at the same time. Before using DAW, I spent so long editing my Roland to build my perfect kit to the music we are creating, it's interesting to hear them both in comparison.

Nick!!! You're convincing me to change from acoustic to electronic kit. It's been on my mind for the last while. Only problem is I freelance for wedding bands so I'm always playing with different bands, so not sure how that would work for them as loads don't have great monitoring on stage. Would ya setup the kit with a wedge so guitarists and singers can hear what you're playing if they don't have in ears? Or would this just be too much hassle?
@sweetwater
@sweetwater Жыл бұрын
Hello, Mark! The way you described is commonly how this is done when drummers gig with e-kits. Best case scenario is always going to be in ear monitors, that way each member of the band can more precisely control how much of it they are hearing. Even in those situations though, it is nice to have some sort of a drum amp or stage wedge on the stage to provide some degree of stage volume, which is lost without an acoustic kit. If you ask me, bringing a small monitor is not too much of a hassle considering all of the benefits you gain with an e-kit - no need for mic’ing, access to different tones on the fly, volume control, etc… Thanks for the interest! Now, I honestly don't know much of anything about e-kits, but can this be used on a ddrum hybrid acoustic kit? Does it depend on the module or interface you're using or what? Anyone with advice or answers are appreciated!!

If you have a drum module that sends midi, then yes.
@sweetwater
@sweetwater 2 жыл бұрын
Hey, Darnell. Thanks so much for your interest. As long as the module you’re using to trigger the sounds has USB or MIDI, you can definitely use EZ Drummer with your hybrid setup. I hope this helps. So, I just bought Ezdrummer. Tried this just now. The lowest audio buffer size I'm getting is 144. There's a little latency here. It won't show any lower. Using a Roland TD15

So you need to have an audio interface? I was hoping I could just send the output from EZD3 to TD27v2 and hear it through headphone connected to TD27v2...No??
@sweetwater
@sweetwater Жыл бұрын
Hey, Mark. Thanks for your interest. You don’t necessarily need an interface. You can connect via USB to your computer but your headphones have to be connected to your computer since that essentially becomes the brain and the output. I hope this helps. Great demo Nick. Can you still record internally through the module if you are using the EZ3, or does the recording need to go though an external source?
@sweetwater
@sweetwater 2 жыл бұрын
Hey, JC B. You can still record but it won’t be the EZ3 sounds you’d be hearing. In that case, you’d need a recording interface. I hope this helps. Jason Thiele, Senior Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1391, jason_thiele@sweetwater.com

Are there built in effects like reverb that you can use ? And after you create a drum track can you ad other instruments and vocals to make a song. Or would it have to be transferred over to another program like pro tools to create a song. And would transferring it be relatively easy ?
@sweetwater
@sweetwater 2 жыл бұрын
Hey photographerjonathan, great question! EZ Drummer does have its own mixing engine built in so you can complete a drum track. It cannot record anything else though! My work flow with this program is to use it as a plugin within a DAW. There, after designing your drum groove, you can route each drum to its own track within the DAW and mix how you would normally! If you have further questions, let me know! Drake Sobehrad, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 3271, drake_sobehrad@sweetwater.com

How well does EZ3 "interact" with the Roland PD-140DS? As it has different playing zones I am wondering how well EZ3 does work with these as it does with the different sounds at the Digital HiHat. Does it translate without any lack of sensitivity?

Hey Justin great vid a usual! Its amazing how much you know. You're like the Thomas Edison of e-drums. I have a question I can't get an answer from anyone. Can you trigger Alesis SR-18 sounds from pads thru a Roland TD-27 module? I was thinking if I connect with midi it might work. Alesis and Roland have no no phone support. And also what is the best headphones for e-drums? I have Bose quiet comfort and have problems with distortion. Thanks!!

Hey, Richard. Thanks for reaching out. You should be able to via mid since both units have midi ins and outs. The headphones I use are the Beyerdynamic DT770 pro. Super comfortable and no distortion. Hope this helps. Jason Thiele, Senior Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1391, jason_thiele@sweetwater.com

Will this have better response then my drum module. My module lacks sensitivity and I have to hit the pads too hard to make a sound especially ride cymbals and hi hi hat. I’ve quit playing my e drums cause they just don’t jump. Will this help that?
@sweetwater
@sweetwater Ай бұрын
Hi, thanks for your interest! If your module has USB-MIDI connectivity, you can certainly use it as a controller for EZ Drummer. You can also customize the velocity curve within EZ Drummer, which will allow you to trigger “louder” drum hits with softer strikes. So, if the issue is simply that you’re not getting the punch and volume that you want out of the sounds in the module, it’s possible that EZ Drummer could help. However, if the pads on your electronic drum kit aren’t responding at all when you hit them, they also wouldn’t send MIDI info into the software to trigger the EZ Drummer sounds. One thing you might try before purchasing the software is to connect your module to your computer, and use a free DAW such as GarageBand or Cakewalk to test whether the pads are sending MIDI notes. If that works, EZ Drummer may be just what you need. Feel free to contact me directly with further questions, and thanks again! If you create a custom kit in EzDrummer, how would it save so we could use it later?
@sweetwater
@sweetwater 2 жыл бұрын
Hey, Potenza Designs. Thanks so much for your interest. You can save it with these following steps: 1. Set up EZdrummer 3 the way you want to have it, including the MIDI In e-drum preset. 2. Save an EZdrummer 3 project (Menu/Save as…) 3. Find the folder where the Default Project is saved. 4. Take the EZdrummer 3 project file you saved in step 2, rename it to DefaultProject and replace the file in step 3. I hope this helps. I'm getting back into drumming after 30 years, just got a kit from Donner. One problem, the default sound the unit comes with is a bit disappointing, very flat with no range, all hits sound the same no matter how hard I hit. Do you think that is fixable with this software? You have range but you are also on a much more expensive kit by Roland.

Can you save the sounds form Ez drummer to your Roland TD-27 Module?
@sweetwater
@sweetwater Ай бұрын
Hey there! No, you can’t save them into your TD27 directly. You’ll want to setup those sounds in Ez Drummer and save different presets there. From there, you can easily access those sounds within the software while you’re using your kit to trigger. Feel free to reach out if you’d like to chat through that setup a bit further!
