great video, especially the idea of collaboration, I haven't thought about that, that is game-changing, now I can work with my editor together.

doing a lot of weddings myself, especially shooting most of them in 4K and working in Final Cut, the libraries tend to get VERY LARGE!! so this will certainly help save us some space by strategically exporting XMLs :) thank you for this explanation

probably a stupid question but for the person receiving the xml file, do they need to have all the media that was used to already stored be on their computer or wherever for the project to load up? Or will it show as missing files if they dont have the media on their end already?

FCPX 10.4.6 will no longer export my feature movie. I am working off a 4TB hard drive with plenty of space on all drives. MacBook Pro has about 80gig available, (should be enough?) and memory only using about 4.00 out of 16gigs. Even after I moved movie from 2TB to 4TB it still has been acting funny with audio noises that show up after export and they do not exist in the timeline, or at least not at specific timecode. However I have found audio noise from disabled clips that showed up after export, weird, not sure how that can happen. Once I delete those they disappear. I am now at the point where it will not export at all. I click on "Share" and that is as far as I get. I have tried to compound all clips and still nothing. I still will be working on the movie so do I need to delete render files or generated files? I'm not sure if this would delete my project files or not. SHOULD I TRY CREATING AN XML AND OPEN NEW PROJECT? AND WILL IT OPEN WITH ALL MY FILES INTACT SO I CAN WORK?
@BaezFlix6 жыл бұрын
Other thing is XML files don't carry a lot of parameters such as title settings, speed ramps, retiming etc. Better to use either a Transfer Library or just send your library to zipped to the other editor in case you have media set to be external.
@satosmania4 жыл бұрын
Hello Marcos, I would like to ask a few questions. 1) Having only the XML, is it enough to open the sequence in FCPX or do I need the library as well? I though XML's contain just information of how a project ( contained in an FCPX library ) changed. So you can reconstruct the new timeline. Eg: I saved an XML, created a new library and imported the XML, it worked just fine without having the "original" library 2) This way, can you transfer colour correction, transitions, audio design etc into the FCPX timeline? Or they are lost in translation? 3) Does the XML contains the media files or can I have them externally and relink them? 4) Do you think it can work converting Premiere XML to FCPX XML ( via third party plugins ) and then relink the files? Thank you in advance for your help!

When you’re talking about the folder structure having the be the same, can you clarify? How deep do they have to be identical? Can I move them to a different overall folder so long as all the elements are still in that one folder? Sorry, I’m new to all this so I don’t know if I’m asking the right questions.
@MarcosRochaTV6 жыл бұрын
FCPX is not going to find the files if you move things around. You can always relink files, if you move video files. Best thing to do is to try it and see what happens.
@Bonabellfilms6 жыл бұрын
They need to be 100% identical. No joke. Seriously.

Thank you, Marcos. I use XML to create excel tables using Producer's Best Friend. This lets me compare different projects within a library, to determine what clips each project is using. This is useful, for example, where you create a movie project and a trailer. One thing I don't understand is what are the different xml export versions useful for. When exporting xml fcpx gives the option to export "general", "basic", "extended", etc. What is the difference?

great video. I just lost 8 hours of my life trying to figure this out but cannot. Maybe you might have a suggestion. In FCP, you can import clips from an SD card or you can use your FaceTime camera. How do I get my Sony RX100M5 to replace my FaceTime camera so that I can record on the fly? I called apple and they said FCP uses the QuickTime engine and recognizes firewire and not USB-3. Any suggestions? thank you in advance.

Mil gracias Marco.

Hi Marcos, in your video you have the file with the purple icon with your footage, then you click toopen your project - I don't have a purple file, at least not with my footage, so where did yours come from/how did you create it and put it there ? Is the purple file the XML you created ? Thanks.

Hi Marcos, Thanks for the video. Quick questions: 1) Can I change the folder structure and keep the file names and will the files relink? 2) Can I change the file names of the clips in the browser window inside of fcp?
@MarcosRochaTV6 жыл бұрын
Hey KZbin Commenter. I would not mess with the folder structure because you will have to relink. You can change the names of the clips inside FCPX, but I am not sure if it will cause problems. Great questions and I am not sure to be honest.

Hey Marcos, quick question. Let's say you are working on an edit for your friend and add some video and music to it. Now the folder structure won't be the same. On the other hand, when your friend opens the xml file, the new assets will be missing. How do you handle that? Gracias.
@MarcosRochaTV5 жыл бұрын
You have to coordinate with your friend to put the music files in the same place, with the exact title. Your friend has to get those music files to you - or vice versa. You have to have the assets available in the same place. Then, you open up the XML.

I have 3 computers that I use to work on my Final cut videos If I want to be able to start working on Mac 1 and continue working on mac 2 or 3 is this the best way or is there a faster way to do this?

Marcos Rocha I am really new to Final Cut I am coming from Vegas pro which does a very easy job with file storage location of files they just stay in the folder they reside on in your pc. If I am not mistaken in Final cut pro they can either be imported into the project or left in location and edited if I decide to leave them in location and not import them into the project so they just stay in the hard drive is that the best practice?
@abrahamkalaoun5 жыл бұрын
@@BreakingElegance in that scenario yes. we often do this, not copying files into the library, but leaving them all on one hard drive and then moving that hard drive between computers. we then launch the library saved onto the external hard drive, along with the footage, and it will work great in this scenario. make sense?

how can I stop my sd card to get those xml files when I put it in the computer?
@Shayler783 жыл бұрын
Isn't it a fact that for XML to work, it has to relink with original files? So if original project files are stored on a hard drive that is corrupted, lost, etc, then the XML won't work?

DO NOT EVER delete files sidecar files from Sony cameras. Those files are full with metadata files. DON'T just copy .MTS files either. From Sony cameras you should always back up the whole card structure and on FCPX the best way is to connect the card and import the media directly from the drive (and not through Finder) as FCPX will re-wrap in case it's one of the XAVC/AVCHD codecs. Please DO NOT copy just .MTS files.
@MarcosRochaTV6 жыл бұрын
Hey Felipe, you seem to be more knowledgeable about this than me. I might be doing it the wrong way, so i will take your advice into consideration. This is how I do it and it's worked out fine, but that doesn't mean it's the best way. What are .MTS files?
