Legacy applications runs mission critical applications in almost every organization. There are opportunities for lots of performance gains and cost savings, but refactoring these older applications is difficult work. Well, it may be getting a little easier. In this video Martin Keen walks through six ways generative AI can help, like creating documentation, reverse engineering, code generation.

Hot topic! Hottest topic for real world right now. I'd like more on talking to data especially databases as migrate. Is like a fantasy I had while STRUGGLING especially with databases or talking across apps. Good topic.

Does Gen AI have a practical application in reverse engineering old spaghetti code? When I posed this question to both ChatGPT and Claude, they both responded in the negative. The question is asked both was the following: "If I were to say that there is a way that we can create a Knowledge Base and store embeddings formed from documentations about industry specific domain features, functionalities, user scenarios and all of these augmented by any documentation associated with the legacy code (if available) we are trying to reverse-engineer, then would it be possible to achieve the objective of deciphering functional requirements that can be used to redesign a new system that replaces the legacy system?"

Guys I think seeing is believing. These board sessions are nice to explain difficult topics but some topics are better to be demonstrated...So make half a video practical demo and then explain on a board how it was done...

Thank you for the suggestion. We've been talking about how we would go about showing demonstrating some of these ideas in a more hands on way. It's good to know there would be interest in more content like that.

@@IBMTechnologycould be cool to take simple, and outdated open source (maybe even archived), and modernize it.

@@IBMTechnology definitelly. I mean if it is possible to practically demonstrate a topic, I think your videos will gather far more traction and you might get more customers on your services if they see how it is possible to solve their problems and how your tools might be able to help.
