Kevin, You are a totally natural teacher and one of the greatest teachers that I have ever seen. I know that, not only because I am a retired teacher who for forty years observed hundreds of others in the teaching profession, but also because of the specific opportunity of being able to compare your online explanations to other people's online explanations of exactly same things. They are working hard and are certainly doing their best, but few of them seem to have the level of skill that you have--that precious skill that a great teacher must have--seeing the subject that they are teaching from the position of the students to whom they are teaching it. You are obviously an expert in the hundreds of subjects that you explain, but some of the worst explanations I have seen come from experts, even the experts who created what they are explaining, because they just cannot manage to view it like the neophyte who lacks their knowledge. Teaching is certainly a skill that can be taught to some extent, but my experience suggests to me that it is primarily an inborn skill. I can tell that you have done a tremendous amount of work to perfect your videos, and they are a close to perfect as you could get them. But, sadly, even hard work isn't enough for those who lack your natural teaching ability to match your natural results. Thanks for doing what you are doing.

Ok, Now i get it. You forgot to mention that these computers are logged into the same account. You might have added to this, that you can access a 2nd computer with a different account, but you must use the Remote Support Share Screen to control of someone else's pc. BTW, its not just a share screen, you have total control of that 2nd pc via that control method.

If my understanding is correct, then google's remote desktop name is somewhat misleading (assuming they are implying that their tool is a Microsoft Remote Desktop alternative). The Remote Desktop utility that comes with Windows (server version requires Windows Pro or higher) is not a help oriented tool. The screen on the remote computer's end will remain locked. So, for example, you can access the computer in your employer's office, and not worry that someone is there that can see what you are doing. It seems as if google's version is more like VNC, or Microsoft's Quick Assist, that allows the parties at both ends to view the activity on their screen, as well as both parties having full keyboard control and full mouse control. Also, unlike Microsoft's Remote Desktop, it looks like google's version requires an internet connection, and your trust in having all of your data go through a google server, somewhere on the planet. So if you have two PCs, side-by-side, and you use google's remote desktop, then your session is going out into the world and back, just to access a PC that is two feet away. With Microsoft's Remote Desktop, no internet connection is needed. If your two computers are on your own network, then you can connect directly. No one needs to approve your connection to the remote computer. You just log-in to that remote computer as if your keyboard was connected to it. Kevin, is my understanding correct? By the way, I mistakenly installed Windows 10 Home (instead of Windows 10 Pro) on a computer that I want to connect to via Microsoft's Remote Desktop. That computer does not have an internet connection, but it is on my local network. I could upgrade to Windows 10 Pro. But that is expensive. Is there a Remote Desktop alternative, that does not require an internet connection? I have not used VNC in 15 years. Is it a viable solution? Or is there a better option?
@bik3much Жыл бұрын
I have Windows 10 Professional for RDP but I also use TightVNC for that "assistant"-style remote control that requires a monitor connected. Pretty sure Microsoft RDP doesn't require a monitor connected to the host and allows concurrent sessions. I think your only other alternative to it is Tailscale or some Citrix product, or perhaps RoyalTS. I would avoid any SolarWinds software as they've had major security vulnerabilities and a poor record of security in the past few years.
@DavidM2002 Жыл бұрын
I use Microsoft's Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) to connect my Windows desktop computer to a Window virtual machine that I setup on my NAS. It's all on the same network and works beautifully. I have confirmed with SpaceRex ( also here on YT ) that using Tailscale as my VPN of choice, I will be able to remotely connect to that same virtual machine using RDC if I install Tailscale on the virtual machine ( internet connection required of course ). Now my connections are all direct,machine to machine, without going through Google's servers. If you have never used Tailscale, it's worth a try. Free, easy to setup, and pretty much seamless.

Google Remote Desktop is generally considered secure. It uses the latest web technologies like WebRTC to connect devices and employs AES encryption to protect data security during remote sessions1. The communication is also secured through a secure SSL connection, which adds an additional layer of security.
