Google Search Console, previously known as Google Webmaster Tools is one of the best free SEO tools out there. However, most people are not making full use of it.
This tutorial will teach you how to use Google Search Console to improve your SEO.
Before watching the video, make sure you’ve already handled the basics like verifying your site and submitting your sitemap to Google.
The first tip is to improve click-through rate for underperforming keywords. For the purposes of this video, an underperforming keyword is any page where you don’t rank in positions 1 and 2 for that keyword.
Basically, if you’re not ranking in positions 1 or 2, you’ll get significantly less search traffic.
Sam will show you how to find these underperforming keywords and how to optimize them for better rankings.
The second tip is to find and analyze pages with high keyword rankings, but low CTR. You’ll learn how to find out which keywords have subpar CTR, how to analyze the cause and how to improve those pages so you can get more clicks and traffic.
The third tip is to check for sitemap errors, warnings, and exclusions. Sitemaps are files that tell search engines which pages are important on your site. They also help crawlers crawl your site more efficiently.
If you have issues with your sitemap, you might have a problem since you could be confusing crawlers, leading to wasted time and resources on their end.
Sam will teach you how to find out if you have any errors on your sitemap and how to fix them.
The last tip is to find pages that need internal links or those that need to be pruned. You’ll learn how to find these pages, and what to do about them.

Good tips. I always use GSC to check the performance of both my sites. On occasion I do get an alert about something I need to fix. One of them was "mobile usability issues detected" (a comparison table I created about 5 years ago, I probably need to change the format of it...)

Simply check Ahrefs Site Explorer that provides all of the keywords a website ranks for in top 100 results. There is also a detailed report available - Movements. There you can check any domain's lost and new keywords, improved and declined positions. That should work for you looks like. - Max

Do you compare correct traffic in GA? Check if any filters are applied. Also GA will not report those pages, that were not eventually loaded (or GA code was not loaded cause visitor left right away). There is a small number of people, who will be ignored by GA because their browser do not render JS code. Finally, if clicks are going to non-HTML pages - they are not reported by GA too. In example a click on PDF file will not be reported in GA, while it will appear in GSC. Hope that helps. - Max

Hey Audrey, it just appeared automatically for us. If you're trying to access the same report, just hit performance and you should see what I showed in the video. If you're looking to get your content added to discover, here's what Google has to say: "Discover content is algorithmically ranked by what Google thinks a user would find most interesting. Content ranking is powered by the strength of the match between an article's content and a user's interests, so there aren't any methods for boosting the ranking of your pages other than posting content that you think users will find interesting." Hey Sam, great video! I've submitted my sitemap 2 months ago under 'Sitemaps' it shows success however under the 'Discovered URLs' section shows 0. Under the 'Coverage' section It shows 60 valid pages, indexed not submitted in the sitemap, should I be concerned? Really depends on the SERP, but a common reason would be SERP features. ie. search for km to miles and Google has a calculator there. Other possibilities is that GSC may count bot impressions from rank tracking tools etc. -Sam

Hello Sam! I have a question regarding a search console issue. Let's say your client has a website which he has access to but he has no access to the search console which was created and managed by his SEO agency. One day, he decided to move on and hire another agency to improve his search ranking. Now his old agency is angry and won't provide search console access. Without suing him or arguing with him, how can you create a new search console for your client and make sure his previous agency has no longer control of this website with the search console he previously created and managed. It's a hypothetical question but I don't see any answer anywhere to this question!

My Google search console looks different. I don't have the options "Search results" and "Discover". And I'm using the new console the "Index", "Enhancements" and other features are the same as in this video. Am I doing something wrong?
