Great stuff! But I'm intrigued to know more about how you combine the audio output from the two applications, when they're both running on the same system. Can you assign them to different output channels within the same asio device and then mix them in hardware? Or do you send the audio output of one application into the other or mix them in a third piece of software?

Thanks for creating such valuable content. Regarding the GP & Ableton integration I find my self asking why not use the audio file player in GP. What is the advantage of using Ableton for this purpose?

Possibly because the Ableton player supports time stretching, something which is currently not available inside GP.

@@nemanjapudar201 thanks, i already watched it. Three things 1) this only works on MAC, because in Windows you cant choose 2 different buffersizes, sadly. 2) it's only relevant when you want to record audio. This workaround doesnt apply to midi instruments. 3) since i m evading any latency adding VSTS (DECAPs example is Ozone... one just cant use such plugins in a live setup!), the latency-workaround isnt really appealing. I think the only advantage of Gig Performer is the nice RAM/CPU handling of VST instruments. In Ableton it s hard to "unload" VST instruments out of the RAM when unused. But just for that, i m not sure if it's worth it to buy and programm Gigperformer... just to be a little VST handler for Ableton. Which could be done in Ableton via chain selector too / or via a plugin host like Komplete Kontrol. It's nice that one can build custom control surfaces though in Gig performer. Would love to have that in Ableton too.

@@sternenherz This discussion is better suited for the Gig Performer Community forums. Anyway, you can also record inputs/outputs as well as MIDI in Gig Performer. FoH engineers use Gig Performer because of that. There are also plethora of other things where Gig Performer stands out, please create a new thread in the community to have a chat (better than in YT comments).

Sure in Ableton you can host plugins an play them Live, but the usage is very restricted. In Ableton there is no free routing, scripting, dealing with incoming MIDI events, timer triggers etc. Believe me Gig Performer is a magic and wonderful live host that Ableton never will be. Ableton is a super DAW and perfect for triggering clips, but for playing live Gig Performer is way ahead.

Gig Performer can respond to an OSC message that specifies the song to be used.

@@nemanjapudar201 You're assuming I haven't created a new thread. LOL. They do a little better in this on, with them getting mostly right to the point. I was initially dismayed by seeing that this is *yet another* 1 hour long video starting out with "Oh hey Bob from Florida is watching!" because I've already invested hours into watching these, often with minimal practical information. Gross. With these videos, is GP trying to build KZbin fans based on personality or are they trying to relay content? Perhaps a fine line with "content creation" that people don't tend to see. He goes through IP Address and port settings, downloading the M4L plugin, linking the two, then naming them correctly. If you had to watch it more than once - YOU ARE DESCRIBING the problem. You shouldn't have to watch 2-3 hours to get such a small amount of info. And trust me, I know - my most popular video on here is ME explaining something and ** I ** take way too long to get to the point! (But not an hour, lol).

@@JonValtandtheEvilRobots Just to push back a little bit :) These are live streams, (not dedicated 5-10 minute videos) where many pro musicians and various guests are interviewed. You can also review time stamps to see what this is about (and skip intro "Hey Bob" ;) This one is particularly useful because Thad is a Gig Performer master.

@@nemanjapudar201 I get it. The live videos / feeds are a different kind of feel. I know I'm likely in the vast minority here, but it just seems like "social" stuff should be separated from "educational." The people who watch hour-long live streams are likely not taking notes, nor are they truly retaining much information. Instead, the idea is that para-social relationship where the audience mistakingly believes they are "hanging out" with "famous" people. There's not necessarily anything wrong with that, per se - it's how Podcasts work. But tons of music channels do this kind of thing (Rick Beato for example), and eventually it starts steering the content away from being informative and more toward being "entertaining," or a good hang. Again, if that's what people are here for, I get it! Haha, but I came to the official GP channel to get information from GP directly. If I want to hang out with them and have a beer or whatever, well it'd be better to try for that rather than "watch" for hours and hours thinking they're my friends. HAHAHA. 🙂 lol I get in trouble with YT comments because when I'm speaking matter-of-factly it sounds angry. haha, but I'm not mad. 🙂
