I've cut my greenstuff with milliput. Worked well especially when casting in bluestuff as it gave that extra rigidity and set harder than just the green on it's own.

Wait so you like mix the greenstuff and milliput together? The different products don't mess with each other?

Tfs! I love apoxie sculpt. I've never used green stuff, which is why I'm looking up videos about it, as I have been looking into trying it out. Your video has been very helpful and informative. Thank you so much. For making the paste out of AS, I used a little bit of xylene and it thinks it right out. I actually already had it, and noticed right on the can it said "thins all types of resins. And thins paints better than paint thinner!" So I had the idea to try a bit on my AS to make the paste to fill In a few gaps on my sculpture and it worked like a dream. Im not sure if you're supposed to use them together or if it messes with the chemical property in any way but, It's been months and used with many sculpts and other projects and haven't noticed any negative effect of using the xylene.

0:58 where i live miniature shops sell the army painter version of those garbage little strip for 16$ per 4 inch strip while the box of milliput is 10$ at the model train/rc car type hobby shop. So far my experience in the mini hobby is that most "for miniature" branded products are just over expensive versions of other stuff.

I'd say if you can buy Apoxie Sculpt where you're at, it's the most value for money
@YanniCooper

Haven't used apoxie sculpt much, but greenstuff, you can alter the properties by mixing more blue or yellow. More blue = less sticky, faster cure time, harder when cured (good for building up a model) More Yellow = Stickier, slower cure, more rubbery when cured (good for finer detail work) I'd imagine that mixing them in this manner before mixing w/ the Apoxie will yield similar results, though I haven't actually tried it. I'd be interested in knowing if varying the proportions of Apoxie results in the same kind of property changes, or if it has to be 50:50 fairly strickly to be usable.
@ModernSynthesist
@ModernSynthesist 3 жыл бұрын
Yep! You can absolutely vary the amount of blue and yellow to get those effects. Mixing with Apoxie Sculpt makes the putty softer and more forgiving without losing the stretchiness of greenstuff. I've never tried varrying the A/B Part mix of Apoxie Sculpt.

Any thoughts on using Milliput to build an under-structure before doing the detail work on a greenstuff layer on top?
@ModernSynthesist
@ModernSynthesist 5 жыл бұрын
Actually, just bought my first batch of miliput. It seems more expensive than Apoxie Sculpt, so I'd say go with Apoxie Sculpt. But, if you've got miliput, then sure. However, if you're just bulking, I'd start with aluminum foil, then miliput/Apoxie Sculpt, then top layer greenstuff. HOT tip: you can mix greenstuff with miliput to make your greenstuffast longer!

Is greenstuff dry well when mixed with Fimo Soft?
@ModernSynthesist
@ModernSynthesist 6 жыл бұрын
ONLY if mixing a small amount. Like, we're talking less than 50% fimo soft, 50% greenstuff. I wouldn't go more than 25% fimo to 75% greenstuff. Though Hydra swears by this approach, I've pretty much given up on using it. 50/50 greenstuff to apoxie sculpt is my go-to every time.

the Apoxy and the way you describe it sounds like milliput except it comes out light green
@ModernSynthesist
@ModernSynthesist 4 жыл бұрын
No way. Milliput is a lot more dense than Apoxie sculpt, and it dries harder. It's hard to explain, but it's slightly different. It's my favourite way to cut greenstuff. I've messed around with Greenstuff x Milliput, and I don't love it as much, but it has its uses.

I think my green stuff is old bc I get little hard yellow pieces in mine even after thoroughly mixing. Also, after it's mixed, it doesn't stretch like yours. It stretches maybe about an inch then tears off.
@ModernSynthesist
@ModernSynthesist Жыл бұрын
Could be old, yes. But the hard pieces in the yellow can also be caused by it reacting with the stretchy plastic wrap they package it in. Regardless, should probably get some new stuff. If you're in the US or Canada, check out Greenstuff Industries.

Does Apoxie or greenstuff expire if sits out too long?
@ModernSynthesist
@ModernSynthesist 2 жыл бұрын
What do you mean by sits out? If you leave it out in the open, uncovered, for... Weeks? It likely dries up. But if you keep it in a sealed container, and put that container in a Ziploc bag, it should last for a very long time. Longer still if you store part A and part B in separate bags.

Hrm. Interesting! However I'd thing it's not wet enough. If you're concerned about it sticking to your work surface, just dunk your extra greenstuff in the water pot for your hands and leave it there.

@ModernSynthesist
@ModernSynthesist 6 жыл бұрын
Sure do William. Stick it in the freezer. I thought that was in one of these videos, but I guess not...? Not that helpful if you're trying to slow it while working with it, but a brilliant way to put additional greenstuff/apoxie you've mixed up on pause while you're working with one part of it. It should last in a freezer for at least 24 hours, maybe 48, and you're pushing it at 72 hours.
