I remember doing this ages ago. However recently when I was going through the settings I found the EITMS was disabled and I have been racking my brains on how to enable then I came back here and problem sorted. It pays to be a patreon and review these simple pleasures. Thanks again Ryan

Very useful information. Recently bought a 2011 road glide and thought something was wrong with my motor. Last Harley was a fatboy with the evo so there is many new technologies that I am learning about these bikes. My next upgrade will definitely be a new air breather because mine is stock and eventually love juggs. I ride back and forth fromTampa to Orlando which is bumper to bumper traffic and I’d rather keep riding instead of having to pull over when traffic is too heavy. Thank you for the useful information.

Thanks so much for this video. I was wondering why my fans were not engaging at idle or when I stop the bike like the usually did, riding my 2014 Ultra Classic Limited in Arizona.I thought maybe some type of heat sensor was gone or something to that affect. So I performed your instructions from the video and found out they were disabled somehow. You saved me an expensive trip to the dealership.

Good video. I was having problems with hesitation on my 2014 SG (16,700 miles) and thought it may be the EITMS being activated. It appears the problem may have been the dirty air cleaner. After 4 times at the dealer for maintenance you would think the dealer would change out the filter, which I was told by the service manager should be changed at 10K miles. By the condition of the filter and rusted bolts it appears it was never looked at or removed. I replaced the filter, bolts and cleaned the intake and my bike now runs great. In the future I will not rely on the dealer.

You betcha!! That is just awesome that you got hooked up with your first HD....ENJOY and ride the heck out of it!!
@Karmakatt69 жыл бұрын
If the sensor only affects riders heat and has no bearing on engine longevity, I prefer it off. I think that HD certainly has an awesome tone and love the way the bike feels and sounds with both cylinders firing. That's the main attraction on the road by other's as well I'd imagine. I really dislike having it kick in and lose that cylinder. It sounds like a sewing machine at lights. If it's better for the engine I'd consider it, but I belive the concensus is, it is designed to keep the rider cooler. That's why we can wear Vests. It's all part of the HD experience. Of course I'd like to add that I learned how to switch it by watching your great Vids Ryan!! I'll be buying a set of Heated Grips before the fall and look forward to buying your install video. Have a good one and ride safe Brother, Lee
@RyanUrlacher9 жыл бұрын
Lee Ross It keeps the motor cooler too by shutting down the rear cylinder. I leave mine on all the time. It's currently over 100 degrees around here and will be for a week or more. Right on about the heated grips. Makes riding in the winter a lot more comfortable. Take care bro.
@alanwhiteside4105 жыл бұрын
Lee Ross What consensus? I believe the whole H.D. Idea here is the keep the bike from getting to hot not keeping the rider cooler! It’s mainly for helping keep the engine a bit cooler and possibly from over heating in traffic and parades! Harley-Davidson’s do not sound like sewing machines!! 🙄 Now you could say that about a Honda Gold-wing. You must have a pretty noisy sewing machine at home.

can EITMS cause hesitation when i pull the throttle? my 2017 Low Rider s has about 900 miles recently began this. after riding for about 30 min. at the stop light. I can feel the heat coming up. Engine vibrates rougher than usual and when I pulled the throttle instead of responding immediately, it made puffing noise.

On my 2008 FLSTC Softail the only way I can enable or disable EITMS is by reflashing the ECM using my SERT i.e. there is no throttle option to enable or disable the EITMS function.
@patcoppolecchia87218 жыл бұрын
Useful info. I think one additional view that could have been helpful to your viewers would have been the third potential message on the info screen. You showed "enabled" and "disabled". You also showed the change in idle tempo. However, you failed to show the info screen also goes to "Active" when the EITMS engages. Matching this visual to the seat-of-the-pants and audio change in idle made the whole process a lot clearer to me. In addition, you showed how to intentionally engage and disengage EITMS. As a heads up to your viewers, with the weight of the larger baggers, it is not uncommon to switch EITMS when wrestling the bike forward or backward and unintentionally twisting the throttle. Remember, when counter-twisted you do not get any engine rev, thus you may be unaware that you've changed, particularly if your info screen is off and you do not happen to observe the green/orange cruise control light switch. Thanks for the vid.

Thanks, Ryan.Apparently, there is no EITMS on 2006.2008 and up. Not sure what he found on his bike. I do know that there is a feature on 2006 that does basically the same thing but not as high tech as the 2008 models, which allow you to turn it on and off at the throttle. From what I gather, they can be "cleared" by a computer. Of course, this can be done at a Harley dealer :-) $$Have a great Weekend.

Ryan, keep up the great work, useful videos and tech help onlineI emailed you a while back about your opinion on the Cobra Fi200 Power Pro Black(2016). Wondering if you have any useful info on performance and reliability of this unit? 2nd) I have a 2006 Electra Glide Ultra Classic. I'm not finding how/where to turn this feature on/off. Nothing showing on my displays. I've tried rolling throttle forward with key on and not running and rolling throttle forward with engine running. Nothing shows. Is it on 2006 Electra Glide U.C.? Is there a different approach if 2006 has throttle cables Thank you, again, Ryan

Hey Robert. Not sure on the 2006 brother with EITMS. And I don't have any great info on the Fi200. We don't use it and have not tested it. We use the V&H FP3, Power Commander, Auto Tuner, and Power Vision......Maybe we'll get around to testing it. Sorry, I was not of much help here.

According to the Harley-Davidson site, its not for engine overheating, but for rider comfort.
@RyanUrlacher8 жыл бұрын
Rider comfort would benefit from a cooler motor. This is taken from a HD Owners Manual: For those riders who frequently find themselves in riding conditions where the vehicle is subjected to prolonged idle conditions or traffic congestion, the motorcycle is equipped with an Engine Idle Temperature Management System (EITMS) to provide limited cooling of the rear cylinder.

I really don't know if you are reading this ; but the issue of mitigating high heat in air-cooled motors ; like the 103 and Mil-8 motors ; already been long resolved by using ceramic coating on tops of pistons, inside the heads, and inside exhaust header. All this water / oil head coolings for 103 , 107, 114 CI motors maybe not required ; short of just running a standard oil cooler for the entire motor. Just another example this motor company using bad engineering to solve simple problems.....

Same thing in the Denver metro area. When it is above 80 and sunny here I've had it engage and I thought it was an issue with my V&H fuelpak tune. Glad this is normal and take off with it engaged sucks. Blipping the throttle cuts it off. Appreciate all of the LAB videos, theyve been very helpful for me.

Harley Twin Cams are the only air-cooled, engine, premium priced, bike, that needs such a management system. Temps of 400+, are common on the Twin Cam, rear cylinder, and anything above, 300 degrees, begins to degrade the oil viscosity. Instead, of putting in an adequate stock oiling system, that would enable the bike's oil pump to pump out more than 3-8 psi, at idle, Harley masks this inadequate system by, installing a rear cylinder heat shield and this cut off management system. So, much for that great Harley single crank pin sound, you pay for, and don't get it at idle. I live in South Texas, and 100 degree ambient temps are normal, in the summer, and I have an air cooled V Twin, that pumps out 38 psi, oil pressure at idle, with no cut off management system needed at idle. Just Saying, Harley should solve the problem, but, chose to not do so.

Madlgor FKGoogle: SHOWA USA, is a Japanese owned, subsidiary, dumb, dumb. No response on the RIKUO, Harley Japanese produced bikes? I don't hate Harleys, per se, only the Twin Cams, loved the EVOS, SHOVELS, PANS, etc. The only modern Harley to own is an XL1200 SPORTSTER, uses, Metal Gear Drive, to operate the 4 cams and a right side, final drive belt, inexpensive and quick to change out and uses the EVO designed engine, not a Twin Cam design. Wait till you change out the left side final drive belt on a Soft tail, get ready for hours of work, tearing out the primary drive, compensator, chain drive, starter, clutch basket, swingarm, and costly to have done. And since '04, the Sporty uses a rubber mounted engine, to eliminate the vibration they were known for. I remember when Harley sold out to AMF, a bowling ball manufacturer, in 1969-83, they have been sold out so, many times, and it was the EVO engine, that saved them from going down the tubes, to the Metric Bikes. If you love all that PLASTIC in the primary chain tensioner, and in the two Roller Chain drives, that can stretch and negatively affect cam/valve timing, and run that hot, engine, to pieces, with it's pressed together, crankshaft, and rear cylinder heat shield and rear cylinder Cut Off Switch, and cheap, junk INA cam bearings, instead of Torrington, B-124's, then you deserve what you get, pal.....makes no difference to me. If you want to support Harley who in 2014, laid off 25% of it's American work force and replaced them with foreign workers, which they had to train, on the way out the door, or risk losing, their, severance pay, then, more power to you. As Harley's 2014, annual report stated: "6 out of 10" Harley customers, are in "emerging markets", doublespeak for 3rd world countries.........just another multi-national corporation with factories in Brazil and India, not just in USA, hiring more foreign workers, than American, cause they have only loyalty to the almighty dollar and like P.T. Barnum the side show, owner and circus owner once said: "There's a sucker born every minute." And you can keep buying all the sweat shop made, 3rd world produced, Harley clothing, line and merchandise, cause the American textile mills, were gutted many years ago....go ahead, "sucker."
