The app itself is excellent but it's difficult to find a consistent partner that will give you the time they take and you can't really blame them, they probably find it really difficult to find the time to teach. Most of my language partners are young adults balancing work and university and all but one of them is in China! And I'm learning German! Makes you really appreciate how hard some people work to achieve.

Thanks for the video Olly. ha ha but i'm old. there's a problem to start with. Seems nobody wants to speak with a wrinkly old prune (66 yrs old) Then I'm male and to top it off, straight with a lovely wife. Then to add a few more broken bottles to walk over, I'm only just starting to try and learn my first second (wow what a contradiction in terms) language. Never been able to in the past. Now I've just spent 180 days (yes, almost 6 months) trying to learn Russian using duolingo and I am still unable to understand people speaking. (They are too fast and my vocab is only a few hundred words) and It seems as though I am a leaky bucket. Even though I am studying words a lot of the day, as I pour them in the top they seem to be leaking out holes anywhere from ner the top to all of the way to the bottom. But as I said, thanks for a great explanation of the app. Oh, one last point, my fone isn't all that good to use (and the user (me) gets lost using it as well) so I was hoping to find someone to speak to/with through my laptop (I thought I was doing pretty good figuring out how to work the laptop then along came apps) Have a wonderful day )))

Hi Olly! Thanks for another very helpful video. Do you have any methods for making it a fair exchange? For example, with my italki pals, we speak 30 minutes in French and then 30 minutes in English. With texting, how would that work? Do you agree to text every other message in each language?
@storylearning6 жыл бұрын
With text I’ve always found it to be quite hard to establish these rules because there’s such a low barrier to entry for people to join. For me the best thing has been to try a bunch of people and then quickly see who’s playing along. Many people are time wasters, unfortunately, so don’t feel bad cutting people adrift if they’re not reciprocating!
