Latin is the official language of the Vatican State; it is therefore a living language. What's more, many of the media on the internet are in Latin, so they were written and read by contemporaries.

I'm 7th generation Texan (although I've lived almost all of my adult life in California), and I am familiar with all of the accents in this video, but the accents are not restricted to such defined areas, and there is a lot of bleed through because people move around a lot within Texas. I was born in Temple (near the center of Texas) and went went to rural schools until high school. Many of my friends were Native Americans (probably Tonkawa), and they had their own very specific accent, which you neglected to include, and it has some influence from Native languages. One of the main features of this accent is pronouncing "CH" like 'SH", especially at the beginning of a word. Therefore, "children" would be pronounced "shildren". The "SH" sound is extremely common in native languages, all the way down to Guatemala, and the Mayan languages. I haven't lived in Texas since 1988, and so this accent might be disappearing. Incidentally, pretty much everyone in my family has a different accent - my grandfather had a strong Southern drawl, and I picked up some of this from him, and my father's accent was influenced by Black field hands that he worked with in the fields as a child. My brothers and sister have different variations of Texas accents, but my mother had a very strong central or West Texas accent, since she grew up in West Texas, but moved to Bell County after university. Her mother was from Germany and maintained a slight German accent, but she was an English professor and spoke very properly. My other grandmother had French ancestry, and her accent had a Cajun influence.

As a Texan (family has been here since the land grants in th 1830's) I have a rural accent and love it. Not only are we losing our accent but we are also losing our colloquial terms. Terms like "yonder, muggy, fixin" etc. My grandmother used to say "pillar" for pillow and things like that. I miss hearing the old ways of talking. My husband is from "up North" and he had a heard time understanding me because I put the emphasis on a different syllable when saying certain words. Texas is very big and and there are different regions so West Texas folks will sound a bit different than those East Texas folks behing the "Pine Curtain" (if you're from there you'll know), then you have the accent that is laced with Spanish, and back in the day my Dad who is 88 y/o remembers some Texans who had a high German accent mixed with Texan accent. We have friends who are Mennonite and you can still hear that because they speak low German but also English so you'll hear the Texas accent but the German will poke through. Love it!

Let's be honest, thats 3 hours a day and every day. On average, no casual learner who is spending 15 minutes every day will become fluent in less than a decade.

Arabic is a tricky one tho... the dialects can be so vastly different from one another... You can always learn Modern Standard Arabic and you can be understood everywhere and read newspapers and such but... nobody speaks like that on a day to day basis... learning fus-haa (standard arabic) and levantine arabic has almost been like learning two different languages honestly... had to put fus-haa on the back burner for awhile as I became more fluent in levantine arabic.

Mandarin is easy. That means, if I can't learn it then it's my problem. And when I have a problem I can work on it and solve it. So the problem is not Mandarin, it's me. Tones? Actually you can ignore the tones. Simply memorize the sound from audio (and then use Pinyin from time to time to lookup something, or to type on the PC).

Your Southern accents vary considerably depending on whether a person has teeth or not, and whether they have 'chaw' in their front lip. And then also all Southern accents have the high and low versions. Frankly the most beautiful Southern accent, which is almost completely gone now, is the Virginia Charlottesville accent. It is an English accent with a soft Southern drawl.

I don’t get why a language learner would want to change the language they’re learning. If you don’t like it, don’t learn it.

I'm Brazilian and I'm saying that BRAZIL listed as "to boost your career" is a joke. Since 2012 we can't grow anymore. Almost ALL other emergent countries are growing and ALL other ASIAN emergent countries are growing. In the third quarter of 2022 Brazil's GDP "grew" at a rate of 0.4%. Vietnam's GDP in the same period grew at 13,67%. In the year of 2022 Vietnam grew at 8.2%. Brazil only 2.9%. In 2023 Vietnam grew at 5.05% and Brazil also at 2.9%. And even those 2 and so percent are misleading. Mostly due to the agrobusiness. Industry in Brazil in fact CONTRACTED in this period. And yeas, I'm learning Vietnamese. Run away form my country! Like I'm doing.

I am surprised that Korean is considered Cat 5, while Thai and Khmer are Cat 4, especially with respect to the writing system. Hangul is one of the simplest and consistent writing system as compared with both Thai and Khmer. It's beauty is that it sounds as it is written. The script was designed so that persons of low education could learn to read it quickly relative to Chinese.
