I really love the fact that you make natural, sometimes even rather coloquially complex examples all the time. I really learn a lot of these videos, despite being almost ready for a N2 level. Many teachers on youtube really speak to foreigners, like people typically speak to foreigners anywhere: verrry slow, simple grammar, no colloquialisms at all and sounding like a school book. You don't do that ever...
@humanbean3
@humanbean3 Жыл бұрын
i agree but he's definitely speaking a little slower and extra clear for us
@amarug
@amarug Жыл бұрын
@@humanbean3 The clarity maybe yes, the speed I would say not. I just spent quite some time interacting with, and showing our country to a large travel group from Japan and I payed a lot of attention to how they speak to eachother, particularly when I wasn't in the picture. It was clear that many don't speak nearly as fast as Kaname often does. Also if you watch Japanese reality TV you see that many speak even slower, depends a lot on the individual. But the clarity of pronounciation is surely true.
@UzumakiHarutoJP

@@humanbean3 only as clear as any good teacher should (shouldn't teach with unclear speech) and I personally find his talking speed to be right next to average in this video, maybe 90% of average speed... in other videos he talks a lot faster than average too so it weighs out even I guess

@SibeliusEosOwm
@SibeliusEosOwm Жыл бұрын
From what I've heard, it can help to remember that technically there are no such thing as 'combined particles' - each particle is doing its normal job. In particular には/では are just に and で but the noun they're attached to is *also* the topic. On thing that makes it confusing is that では can also just be だ/です but in the 'te' form, in which case you're talking about ~ては sentence structure (i.e. 'even only this'). Naturally all this goes the same for にも and でも - with double caution to be sure that the で in でも is actually a particle and not です in disguise. As for the others, I'm not familiar enough with the nuances of when you'd use とは and とも because I've never really encountered them in the wild aside from using とは to define a term. Of course, I'm still a beginner so that means nothing. Still, it would be cool to get a general particle nuance video. Could start with the usual distinction between when to use は and when to use が. I'm curious if there's a similar distinction between using は and を, and when it might be allowed to alternate.

It's remarkable how many senses of 悪い correspond to uses of _bad_ in English! 悪い人 - bad person (moral judgement of person) 膝が悪い - having a bad knee - can describe many body parts in English, especially joints and internal organs 目が悪い - having bad eyesight 悪口を言う - to badmouth わるい。 - My bad. - only good admitting fault / apologizing, no good for assigning blame to someone else My dictionary also has a few other senses: この肉は悪くなっている - This meat has gone bad. - usually forms of "to go bad" 夜ふかしをするのは健康に悪い - Keeping late hours is bad for you. 悪い (ひどい) 風邪をひく - to catch a bad cold 悪い前兆 - bad omen - also "ill omen" But these don't match: 口臭 - bad breath (uncountable) 不渡り小切手 - a bad check

Thank you so much Kaname San. I really love the way that you focus on words/concepts where there is not a neat 1:1 overlap between Japanese and English. I knew a lot of this when I lived in Japan 34 years ago, but I don't think I ever heard such a concise description when I was learning Japanese. I've forgotten some and am using your channel to brush up. YT is 90% crap, but your content is very high level.

I see a lot of people asking you to make videos on concepts that you could easily Google or find in a textbook (so far this video has comments requesting stuff like ~に・で・とは、~さ ...) but I'm pretty certain that the reason your channel blew up is because you specifically don't make videos about stuff like that. I'd hate to see you devolve into churning out N5 to N1 grammar explanations just because people keep asking for them in the comments, so I just wanted to encourage you to keep making videos like these because they really set you apart from all of the other resources.
