Great tutorial! I have several old home movies that are over an hour in length. I understand how to edit them now. One issue I've had is importing them from my external hard drive. IMovie doesn't see them.

Put the video in the timeline. Edit what you don’t want to keep. Export it. Then do it again and again for all the other sections you want
