In this video I'll break down the lighting for a few of my renders. I chose 3 different types of environments to show a variety of different simple lightings setups you can use in your own work.

You did a great environment and you are not afraid of not showing everything. It's the other way round: if you don't show everything, the mystery starts and art gets interesting, beautiful, life changing. Thank you Max. Go on with this !

Hej Ithanks a lot for all this information! Lighting set ups are a real struggle and sometimes you don't really know how much is much and your clean set ups relieve a lot the stress of thinking you are not adding enough lights. Much appreciated!

I have to say, the best thing that could've happened to me is running into your channel in the recommended section. I was looking for some stuff regarding lighting and what not, and this has been everything I've ever needed. I've got some models I made I can now reuse for some nice scene. Thanks a lot Max, subbed and liked for such a wonderful job. Wish i had some money to send your way ❤

Really good advice for the lighting! I also like seeing how you use volumetrics because mine tends to look too murky. Ha ha! I'm heavy-handed on the values. ;) The lighting on the last image, where you ease down the power of the blue light, that's a great idea that I need to remember to do more often.

thank you so much for these insights... I have one question: in the last scene for example, the sciefy scene you show this point light in the background. You say it does not add much but I am sure you just mean in the sense of lighting - for the whole scene this adds so much depth. So my question is: when you create such a scene do you have this light already in mind like "hey, I need some distinct lighting in the background to add an effect which I have in mind" or is it more a trial all the time? Do you experiment all the time with different lights, colors, strengths, positions and than more or less by accident you find this effect?! I ask for a friend who never really know in advance what he wants and can do andd what effect which light in which position may have and he needs to experiment all the time who asks hisself if this is just a lack of experience (which it is for sure) or if even experienced artists do a lot of experimenting all the time (so this experimenting is actually part of the joy.) 🙂
