I love these papers! I never thought I would enjoy paper piecing but these are addictive. I am almost finished with a 12 inch block quilt using Pinkerville jelly roll strips and I am so proud of how perfect the blocks look even though I know that was because of FQS and not because of me haha! thank you!

Love this method... wanting to cut my own strips as I have found a beautiful line of fabrics I love... can u give me a rough estimate on how much yardage to do your 42 square 12inch pack? Wanting to buy enough but not go overboard...lol.. and appropriately how many different material patterns? Line I love has 10...but could choose main 6 etc. If needed... opinions? Love videos and bought both 6 and 12 packs...plan to make quilt then later few shams... thank u!!

What size do you cut the blocks and strips? I’m precutting all my scraps
@FatQuarterShopTX
@FatQuarterShopTX 4 жыл бұрын
Hello Denise! All the specific cutting is in the pad. The 6" pad is sized for 1.5" strips, the 12" pad is sized for 2" strips.

i hope this doesn't come across as rude, but why do people use the paper instead of just sewing the pieces that were already cut out? does it make the final shape easier, or easier to keep your colors straight? It almost looks as if the process is more putzy instead of saving time, or I'm not understanding? I get using the triangle paper, I'm just not seeing the time savings here with the log cabin unless the paper is for some other reason?
@FatQuarterShopTX
@FatQuarterShopTX 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Christine, some people prefer the paper piecing method because it guarantees the block will come out perfect whereas in regular piecing you have to rely on accurate cuts and a perfect 1/4" seam for accuracy. Also, you can use random scraps without having to cut to an exact size which makes the process easier for some people.

What is the real benefit of using PP for a log cabin block. I may be naive as I'm a newbie quilter, but it seems like all videos I've watched of the log cabin, this really isn't any different...except that you're sewing to a piece of paper. Am I missing something? Thanks!
@tlt43
@tlt43 2 жыл бұрын
I was wondering the same thing. It seems to me as if paper piecing would be beneficial for very intricate designs but for something like a log cabin, the concern is just to cut the pieces correctly. I am also a newbie though so I could very well be missing something.

I know this is a year later, however I love FPP. The reason is to basically “lock” your stitches and make sure all seams are 1/4 inch as you would in any quilt piecing.
@kambyr

Why don’t you print a dotted line on one side to sew and a line on the back to use for placing?
@FatQuarterShopTX
@FatQuarterShopTX 4 жыл бұрын
Hello Kambyr! The paper is very thin and you are able to see through it. The lines on both sides would interfere with each other!
@kambyr
@kambyr 4 жыл бұрын
Fat Quarter Shop oh then what does folding the paper do? Sorry I’ve never done it before.
@aimgrace
@aimgrace 3 жыл бұрын
@@kambyr hi, I know this is a year later, but you’re folding the paper when you flip over to trim fabric to your normal 1/4 inch seam as in your normal quilt piecing. If you don’t fold the paper back, you will end up trimming the paper off as well, which will mess up the paper piecing quilt block. The point of paper piecing gives you very crisp seams and fairly perfect blocks.
@kambyr
@kambyr 3 жыл бұрын
@@aimgrace I guess I just always felt like it’s be nice to have paper with lines on both sides. Maybe I’m just weird.
@aimgrace
@aimgrace 3 жыл бұрын
@@kambyr I get that. You feel that way at first, however, the fabric needs to be bigger than the lines, so it still makes it hard to follow. FPP is a very backwards way of seeing the quilt. You’re actually piecing on the bottom of the the fabrics from bottom to top. Which is a confusing way to explain it. I use a light box under it or I will actually color my “boxes” in order of fabrics on the numbered side, then I will write the numbers to each on on the fabric side. But you’re always sewing on the opposite side of the fabric and following the lines anyway. Which is how you get perfect seams.
