Aftrer using the Magic Eraser, use the back of a spoon to flatten the fibres and then you can paint over the area .

That's a good idea. Thanks for sharing Douglas. I usually just leave it to dry for a while and I haven't noticed any problems. I will have to give the spoon a try.

I use a smooth stone, place some paper over the area and burnish where I used magic eraser ,it pushes the fibers back.

I am loving all of your videos. I think you are using a plastic palette. If you scrub the mixing area with a magic eraser, the paint won't bead as much.

Yes, I have used the magic eraser to clean my palette. It does a good job to get stains off, too. I have noticed that some pigments will bead more than others. Thanks for the comment!

Thank you for the suggestion of using watercolor ground over my messed up signature

Happy to help! Just give the ground extra time to dry before painting back over it.

This is great! The Magic Eraser has saved me so many times. I do try to save it for emergencies, though. I have found that the Arches 300lb Cold Press Bright responds differently to masking fluid and Magic Erasers than the regular Arches 300 CP. Unfortunately, I have 8 more sheets to use up... Thank you for all of these videos - they are unbelievably helpful. I've been painting for 20 years and keep learning new things from you. Wish you were here in Maine!

You are very welcome Beth! I like bright white 140 lb cold press better than the regular. I have not had a problem with the bright white and magic eraser. Which one of the 300 lb works better for you? I am so glad the videos are helpful. I have started traveling to teach more, so maybe one day I'll end up in your area.

I really love the Arches 300 CP natural for quarter sheets and larger (140 lb for smaller paintings). This batch is the first 300 lb bright I've tried, and it just feels different to me as far as texture and responsiveness. I even checked the sticker on the remaining sheets to make sure it was cold press and not rough. But I'd be willing to try the 140 lb bright on your recommendation. I know other painters who love it as well.

What do you do if you mess up your signature on you painting when using a permanent marker?
@lorrainewatry_watercolors

Hi Julie, I have never spelled my name wrong, but there is always a first time. I have made the letters messy and usually I just make it look as good as I can and don't worry about it. However, if it is really noticeable, you could try using some watercolor ground painted carefully over the lines that are wrong. It will dry and be permanent after 72 hours, but you must wait or it can lift off. Then once the ground is down and dry you could paint a little of the same watercolor in the surrounding area over the ground, let it dry and then fix your signature. I hope that helps. This would be a good video, so I will put it on my list.

In the long term, do you find the chemical(s) in the Magic Eraser affects the paint in any way?

No, I have not had any issues with the chemicals. I don't use the magic eraser in every painting, though.
