@@ScottJund Yes, it was much like a pre-patch grav missile when thrown at the feet & fully charged, but with the added benefit of true-comboing into another comet on late hits! Having animation chains with spiral shard also helps ;)

Miriam's into Ghostflame Explosion is very funny in invasions. It's still bad, but it breaks people's brains enough that you can sometimes experience what actually dealing damage with that spell looks like

353 at 80 80. 💀 For reference, prince of death would get like 430. Lusats gets 400 at like 70 int only. Carian regal gets 370 something at least near that bracket as well. Erdtree seal gets 353 scaling with just 80 faith too, and golden order seal a ridiculous amount at 80 80.

I run that exact combo at lvl 168. 55/55 split for Int/Fth and easily do 800-1k damage with Wraith of Gold and between 600-800 damage with Grav Missle. The cool thing is that Fleeting Microcosms second explosion combos into both, so if you cast Microcosm at your feet and bait your opponent into range the inital explosion will roll-catch the second, larger one which then combos into either WoG or Grav Missle. Easily does 1.2-1.8k damage lol. Thats not even mentioning how so many other spells and incantations combo together and roll catch. It's so much fun, but you need really high casting speed to do this. You can use what scott uses (the Azure catalyst and Radagon Icon) or what I use: Beloved Stardust. It gives max casting speed so I can actually use a weapon and cast spells at max speed. The damage resistance down definitely sucks ass, but that doesn't matter if you don't get hit 😁😉

I run 52 faith 41 int at RL150 and it doesn’t seem that bad, I have no dex so my cast speed isn’t great but I’ve never felt like the damage was bad. Graven mass talisman + magic damage physick helps out there, gravitational missle into the beast tornado incantation is a thing of beauty when it works

Sounds like you would benefit from a controller with remappable extra buttons on the back. I bought one because I was tired of using the claw grip to run while moving the camera when playing DS3. Now I have D-pad up, D-pad down, and D-pad left on the other buttons so I almost never have to remove my left thumb from the stick. If you don't want to shell out the money for a controller with built-in back buttons, it looks like they sell attachments for PS5 controllers that provide mappable paddles, for a fraction of the price.

I remember Scott’s OG pure mage tutorial from the launch period, that shit helped my mage gameplay so much. Double Glintblade into Collapsing Stars hasn’t left my mage’s spell rotation since and it never ceases to be extremely satisfying. I’m surprised that it’s still pretty slept on in general, I think I’ve maybe only seen someone else use it in the wild once since launch. Anyways Miriam’s is goated and this is another certified jund moment. You could throw so many utility ashes of war onto this build and make it go extra nuts if you wanted. 10/10

Hey, scott. Mage is my favorite build for PVP, too, and we have a really similar playstyle, so I was wondering why you prefer pure mage no weapon. The only reasons I can see are that you do need a little more End, and maybe str/dex for stat reqs, but there's a lot of weapons that don't actually need you to dump any extra points in, and you'd only be missing out on maybe a passive staff buff, and you'd be getting an entire new moveset to mix people up with and an ash of war that can synergize with spells. For example, a curved sword with spinning slash doesn't really require anything extra, can almost proc frost or outright do so, and if it doesn't it will make the Adula's projectile proc it, so even if you lose out on some damage on carian spells, once you proc the frost, you get that damage back and then some. And if you wanna give up a few negligible points of damage, you can put a LOT of pressure on, with say, a Nagakiba and its running R2s and then when they get used to dodging that, you can running R1 into a spell combo or even set up a collapsing stars into unsheathe or something similar, and to me it adds a whole extra dimension to the game plan for just a small amount of damage sacrificed, so I'd have thought this would be right up your alley. So, yeah, I was just kinda wondering since we both seem to love how versatile the spells are, but I feel like melee weapons added to the mix make the spells MORE versatile, which it seems like you'd want, but seems like you don't like as much, and I was just wondering why. Also, on topic of the video, do ALL spells get this Miriam buff where they can be cast out of it, or just sorceries? I don't personally have the spell yet, so I was wondering if you could do something silly like a faith build with 26 int to teleport and try to mask the startup of the frenzied flame grab or some of the other lengthier incantations that otherwise wouldn't really have a place in PVP. Not sure if you know off hand, but I know in the past you did try some faith/int hybrid builds and wasn't sure if you'd tried this kind of thing out yet or not.

I think I’ve seen Scott say in the past he thinks Carian Slicer+Piercer are the best melee weapons a mage could have so a weapon isn’t really necessary. He also saves himself a lot of dex investment by using the staff offhand that improves your cast speed at the cost of double FP. Personally I agree with you that having a backup weapon can sometimes be handy for mix-ups, as long as you can still comfortably get your cast speed and spell damage up without spreading the build too thin. One idea I’ve been playing around with lately that seems good is a mainhand halberd. I use a Banished Knight’s Magic Halberd to give me access to R1/running R1 pokes to chase down or rollcatch people, sometimes when they’re in the middle of dodging spells (I was trying this with Glintstone Nail yesterday). One big benefit of a mainhand weapon is having access to Endure for your spells. Really good players in duels usually won’t trade into Endure, but average duelists and invasion hosts/phantoms can be baited into trading with something like a Piercer, especially if they have slower weapons. Cast some ranged spells to force them to get aggressive and rush you down, then Endure right when they’re about to attack. There are a lot of cool possibilities with Endure.

Miriam's is a great mix-up, but it really shines as a dodge. (Favorite combo: Carian Greatsword > Miriam's > Carian Greatsword > Carian Slicer > Miriam's > Carian Piercer) Scarlet Aeonia? Teleport in after the explosion, while the opponent is still in recovery frames. Bloodhound Fang WA? Space it, teleport in place, backstab. And if someone slow walks at you, slow walk back, then cast Miriam's.. they panic every time, losing all sense of "cool" that they had

Int-fth is definitely doable, at least with the new mixed spellcsting staff, focus on int(at least enough for gravitational missile) and you can pull off similar combos as what you showcased, except you can have catch flame which does actual poise damage and the opponent has to respect it for more than damage alone unlike slicer, also allows the usage of drahon braths and gurranq spells

I like to run this with a little faith for the Putrescent Spells, sacrificing some Mind and End to do so. Probably not optimal but very fun. Miriam's into Vortex catches people all the time. I feel like I'm good enough at active flasking where I can do just fine with 25 Mind, especially with Miriam's and Gravitational Missile to cover your flasking

I think an int faith build ist actually possible with low level: you need the hairlooms that's +5 int or faith 10 if you use bozh, the hatpice that gives you +3 int, fingerprint nostrum gives + 6 mind, faith, int arcane. That all one could save you 37 statt points 26 if you use 1 loom and don't count arc. You could also use arc tools like the mimic helm of you want to use the coroponding cathalists for that. Didn't counted the phisiks that could be 20 stats in theory, but there are more usefull effects. I also, but that's preference, don't use much endurance, low poise can be tricky, but let's be honest most meta weapon stun with running r1 anyway since last patch, but that's me. With the new catalyst you can do some interesting mix Ups with different timings without switches catalysts. Maby it inspire some of you to try it out.

There's actually some PvE boss attacks that you can predict well enough to use Miriam's vanishing to counter. Like the second hit of Carian Sovereignty from Rellana. Though you have to skip her in order to get it before you fight her, lol. Makes me wonder what other attacks you can use it for.

Keep vanishing into standing there like an idiot because while I swapped to gavel or whatever, it didn't take the cast press or I did it before swapping spells. Need more practice for sure. I know you're rocking an 80 int build with Lusat's but holy fking moley 300+ damage per swift glintstone shard is stupid. It's insane. You say you can "react it" and roll it, but the thing is it's pretty darn fast and even if you can roll it it's among the best whiff punishers in the entire game. I personally consider it much more dishonest than star shower, as long as you don't simply spam the latter. Other than that, insane mix-ups! Lovely gameplay.

But I would still rather it did half the damage, because - as you rightfully stated - it is still very much worth using even if it doesn't delete hp as much as it does. Just mage usable against brain-dead lock on Melee monkey mashing. I had to change from my main back to magic when I saw them add the mage teleport and the putrescence spells. Are gravitational missile and Miriam’s the only good dlc PvP spells. Microcosm any good? Also how would this build differ for invasions so you think. Does it need any editing at all or would spells like cannon of Haima be too useful to pass up, while spells like gravitational missiles might become less useful? Furthermore, is it evil to use star shower after glintstone blades. The arc seems a little more fair? Or is the arc legitimately better for catching rolls with a free aim than just mindlessly doing the undodgeable attack💀 My combo that I don’t use because it is sick and twisted is glintstone blades, star shower, shard spiral, and then either adulas moonblade right as they all about connect to the opponent, or gravitational missile/ etc depending on their distance. Now obviously you can probably take shard spiral out of that too. The most it does is cause panic rolling even more, but it wastes a spell slot. I’ve had some pretty weird/ good rollcatch experiences with it though! Edit: Yeah I’ll have a little decency and use arc instead of shower 💀

I mostly PvP as an int build, microcosm is decent I usually catch people when it does its second burst. Damage is not bad either. As for the other DLC spells I think all the new grav spells are ok, the nail sorceries would be better if the staff that improved them didn't require faith and if they had much longer range, more often than not the projectile just disappears before it hits anything. The scadutree thorn spells are absolutely broken if you can get them off at short range, they will probably get nerfed.

I feel like the "no lock on" thing with assassins gambit and unseed form isn't that bad, even as a caster. You have Glintstone arc so you could still hit as well as gravitational missile. I feel like in certain builds (like a night sorcerer build) it is actually kinda thematic. I don't think it is a glitch personally and don't think it needs a specific order actually. And even if you hate it and think it shouldn't exist / it's unfair / cheating - it only lasts 30 seconds... Avoid them for 30 seconds and don't let them do it a second time lol. I have almost never had issues with someone doing that to me in PvP lmfao

I was going to ask why you used Glintstone Arc over Star Shower, but I respect you for not using it. I min max everything I can (except for using bug exploits) so I admit I do use the shower spam to set up or follow setups.

I found Shower really boring when I tried it. It was easy to beat people but I just felt bad, it wasn’t fun for either of us.

@@eldonhill4840 oh absolutely it’s ridiculous. It’s great when used to match other peoples BS like swift slash spam. I use all 10 of my spell slots so I keep it on for fast PVE that dodge or, again, BS spam lol.

Yes, you can combo gurranq stone into it which actually makes its close quarter true combo viable

Just a quick question Scott : So is glintblade trio not worth it in general or is it personal preference ? Also is fleeting microcosm usable in duel or is it outclassed by gravitational missile?

I’m not Scott but I personally like Fleeting Microcosm. It’s not great in duels, but invasions in tight spaces, it can cause some havoc if you already have a grav missile down. As for Glintblade trio, it just doesn’t do anything better than the regular version for a higher fp cost.

Glintblade Trio does slightly more total damage than the singular version... if you hit with all 3. Higher FP cost, harder to get, similar stance damage, but most damning of all, you can't chain cast it into itself. Really not worth it imo.

this is why stamina is important so u can keep up with sorcery spam alot of people neglect stamina in favor of more vigor.

60 vigor is standard no matter the situation. I wouldn’t give up 10-20 points from vigor to stamina. Sacrifice damage first.

Swift glintstone shard is unreactable at max casting speed. Yeah, if it's the only thing someone spams you can predict it but if they mix it in with other sorceries it's just free damage and does way too much for a spell that's just meant to chip.
