Hi Simon, Great video. Instead of using the event trigger you can also use the Tag trigger instead which will have a drop down list of all the tag's you have added in your system to trigger on. This way you don't have to worry about having the name of the tag correct. I use the bins tag, i also use the garage tag but that one goes a little extra as it first disables my HACS integration Alarmo (a great alarm system integration for HA), then opens the garage door and also unlocks my smart locks. Also have one on the underside of my living room table that sits next to my chair that run's a scene that turns on my TV, turns on the fireplace if the temp is to low, lowers the light's brightness. I have a few more but those are the main ones.

Place a tag on either side of your home entry door in your garage - one tag turns on lights when you arrive home while the other shuts everything off when you leave. :)

Does somebody need the home assistant app to trigger these automations? Like can I have a guest trigger these?

Yes you need the Home Assistant application running on the phone. Otherwise you can build an NFC tag reader that connects to you network.

Hi Techtronics, here is a Redit post discussing the topic www.reddit.com/r/NFC/comments/oexhp5/are_there_nfc_cards_with_doubletap_functionality/ I think an easier option would be to have 2 nfc tags close by and just tap the one for the function you want

I've just done a similar thing using a helper. I set up a input boolean toogle. Then I have a script - if variable is off, do this, else if it's on, do something else

I've done this using a single NFC Tag. For our clean washing and gettingn the kids to put it away! Each child has their own washing bucket(s) in their room that is brought down and their washing done. When washing is done 1. Myself / Wife (or even a kid) scan the NFC tag on the bucket 2. HA runs scripts that determins if the boolean variable is on or off 3. if variable is off, it send kids phone a push message to collect washing and put away. Then the variable is set to on. 4. Kid puts washing away and scans the tag - variable is on so it sends a message to the adults saying that the washing is away. Variable is set to off!
