What're your favorite Keeley pedals?
@jkinthewind
@jkinthewind 6 жыл бұрын
My favorite is my modified Ibanez Tube Screamer TS9DX. So many great sounds in that pedal. They don't do mods anymore but I'm told the Red Dirt pedal is basically the same. I use the Katana Clean Boost a lot too especially with my Strat.
@realcap2010
@realcap2010 6 жыл бұрын
@@jkinthewind I also have the KeeleyTS9 pedal, Sea Foam chorus (lucious!) and Mag Echo . All TOP quality and I will NEVER part with the green box!!. If I understand correctly, the Red Dirt (which is the boost component of Aria) is the progression over the years of the Keeley boost pedal mods into his won final creation. The Compressor Plus is the compressor side of the Aria and I have had both and love them!! Also extremely durable over time - I've had my modded TS9 for about 20 years.

@@CodyAlushin I will share my favorite pedal by Keeley and that is the Bubble-Tron which is based on Zappa's dyna-flange and muTron phaser pedals he used heavily when soloing. Also has a envelope filter setting with another three types when the internal switch is flipped to the "vintage" setting that is more of your traditional cyclical flanger and phaser.

First of all, Bea, your playing is immaculate. Pure awesomeness, I‘m actually blown away. That tiny bit starting at around 5:24 is the real deal for me. Does anyone know its closest origin? Neither Mateus Asato nor Chris Buck, as suggested in the comments, have tracks resembling this delightful melody. If it’s an original idea of yours, you just have to put a full length version out there. Cheers!

What you hear is a I-V-VI-IV cadence (G, D, Em, C) in G Major aka "the four chord song". There are probably thousands of pop and rock songs using these chords, which may be the reason it sounds so familiar to you :)

The drive side is the Keeley Red dirt overdrive- I wish they had of made the compressor side the Keeley compressor +- but I think they went with a whole new design for the compression side. Imo they should've just combined two of their past homeruns- the Red Dirt was a massively popular overdrive and the Compressor plus was a massively successful compressor- seems like a no brainer.

Great video. I've been thinking of getting a compressor (never had one) - kind of crazy because I usually play fairly clean with just a bit of drive. What would be the pros and cons of getting this -2 pedals in one - or just getting a Keeley compressor plus (a bit cheaper) and using it with a separate drive pedal?
@kosmicwizard
@kosmicwizard 5 жыл бұрын
I got the aria because I found it to be the same price as the comp+ pedals that I could find on reverb, or certainly less than a comp+ and a red dirt od. Also, it takes up less space on my pedal board and only uses one 9v center negative power adapter.

I'm a fan of your work, and yet this is a terrible review. I own the Aria, it is Keeley's two best selling pedals, comp+ and red dirt on high od (Ibanez ts808 clone) or white sands in low od in one. It helps to know what something is, read about it and have a go to find your favourite settings before you go on camera and say something stupid like "this od is better into a clean amp" than pushing the crunch into metal mayhem. Also, they make a tone knob, that you can turn past one oclock, in order to make it less dark, and yes the comp will also introduce some brightness when they are both on together. Cheers.

Rabea, whats your view on chorus pedals and overdrive? Not after an 80s sound, but interested in a checking out chorus. I tend to use just a delay, reverb (into fx loop), ts9 clone, vox satchurator, and a svex SHO clone pedal (along with using guitar volume). I also have a boss cs3 compressor in front of everything. Marshall 15w valve amp (1974x clone), a 2 x12 (Celestion g65s). I play a peavey wolfgang standard, and a hofner colorama p90.
@kosmicwizard
@kosmicwizard 5 жыл бұрын
Since Rabea never responded, I just want to say that chorus can be set subtly, it doesn't have to be 80's style over the top chorus. If you are looking for an inexpensive chorus I would look at dod fx65 or fx68. Ehx small clone is another inexpensive option. If you have a bit more to spend get a boss wazacraft ce-2 or a vintage boss unit. Cheers.
